“It was a world-class performance,” he said.
I stiffened. Performance. That was a direct reminder of why we were here, why I was staying in his condo.
He snaked a finger up my body to my chin, tilting my head to look at him.
“You know I didn’t mean anything by that. Everything that just happened was real, Charlie. Not for show, real,” he said. “You are amazing and perfect.”
I honestly didn’t know how to respond to that. He constantly threw me for a loop, but this time it was a good one. Oh hell, had it been good.
My body ached in all the right places, and I wanted to fall asleep in his arms and wake up and do this all over again. I had a feeling it wouldn’t take much to persuade him either.
After we caught our breath, we cleaned up and climbed right back into bed. It was still pretty early, not even ten a.m., so I wasn’t worried about the guys texting me to see if I needed to be rescued from Josh’s place. They were probably still asleep.
“Want to watch another Thin Man movie?” Josh asked, tucking me into his body.
“I have to ask. Why these movies?”
“What?”
“Why do you like watching them? I mean, the first one was funny, but not a lot of people our age watch old black-and-white movies,” I said. It seemed so out of character that I’d been dying to ask after we’d watched the first one.
“Uh, I used to watch them with my grandmother. She was a Nick and Nora fanatic. My mom worked a lot, so I spent a ton of time with Nana,” he said with a shrug.
It felt like there was more to it than just a memory of watching them with his grandmother. It was also endearing. And that was not a word I’d ever associated with Josh.
Warmth bloomed in my chest as he pressed a kiss to my brow.
“And Nick Charles is a badass,” Josh said with a grin.
I laughed and settled down into Josh as the movie started. Glorious sex and then cuddling with my husband.
Fuck, that was weird.
But for some reason, I couldn’t pull myself away.
JOSH
“Shut that thing off,” she grumbled next to me. I rolled over, grabbing my phone.
“It’s not mine,” I muttered, glancing at the time. Almost noon. Shit. We’d fallen asleep and I had a slew of texts from the guys.
“Open up if you’re alive.” Jax’s voice carried into the condo as someone, I assumed also Jax, banged on my front door. How the hell had they gotten up here, anyway?
“Shit, no. What is going on? Oh god, does he have a key?” Charlie burst out, her eyes wide as she looked down at us, still naked in my bed.
“Calm down,” I said.
“Don’t tell me to calm down. Jax is at your door with who knows who else and we are naked in your bed. They can’t find out. Oh shit, they can’t find us in bed together. I’ll never hear the end of it. This was supposed to be fake. Fake,” she bit out.
“There was nothing fake about the sounds you made when you came,” I said, unable to stop myself.
“This is not funny,” she said, her gaze darting around the room.
“Did you two kill each other?” Jax called out.
“Don’t be a dick,” Tristan’s voice replied.
“Oh my god. They’re all here,” she said, flinging the sheet off her body.
