“Shark lecture here we come,” Darcy whispered for his ears only as she stepped up to the small green square.

“So cocky. I could still win,” Jake said.

She laughed. “You would have to get a hole in one. Something you’ve only done once tonight. And I would have to take five shots to lose to you.”

“It could happen.”

“Not likely. Now stand back,” she said.

Then she sunk her shot in one. Again.

“Woohoo, sharks,” she exclaimed.

“What?” Harty asked.

“We had a bet,” Darcy said. “I win and he has to go to a science or academic lecture of my choice.”

“And if he won?”

Jake stood back, enjoying the blush staining her cheeks.

“Never mind. I don’t want to know,” Harty grumbled.

Jake couldn’t resist. He leaned in and planted another kiss on her. She gasped against his lips but didn’t pull away, and he knew in that instant that she wouldn’t have been that upset if she’d lost and had to kiss him.

That was progress, or a disaster. He wasn’t sure which, but he let himself sink into the kiss for as long as she’d let him.
