“I love you more than anything,” she said, brushing her lips against his as he slowly moved in and out of her body.

“And I love you more,” he said, picking up the pace and sending both of them soaring over the edge together.

The next morning,Darcy shifted back against Jake’s chest, smiling at his soft, sleepy groan. They’d exhausted each other last night and well into the morning. And she wanted him again. She’d never been able to get enough of him, and she hoped she never would.

“Good morning, love,” he whispered against her nape, stirring the soft hairs and making her shiver.

“Morning.” She turned to face him. “I missed waking up with you.”

“You should move in, and then you never have to wake up without me. Plus, that chair…” He chuckled.

“So dreamy. I mean you, of course,” she teased. “And, I’d love to move in with you and that chair.”

“It’s an unhealthy obsession, you know.”

“My obsession with you?” she asked.

“That could never be unhealthy,” he said with a quick kiss that stole her breath. She sank into it, not caring about morning breath or if they were rushing this.

“So, my mom is thinking about coming out here this summer to meet you. Or we could go to Chicago. She was going to come out for a game, but that’s over now.”

She snuggled up against him. “I’m sorry that you guys lost. I meant to tell you that last night, but then you kissed all the words out of my brain.”

He tucked her close to his body, pressing a kiss to her hair, and she flattened her hand on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heart.

“Make-up sex is important,” he said, and she couldn’t stop her laugh.

“It’s very important. But yes, I would love to meet your mom and grandmother and anyone else you want to introduce me to.”

“Think the moms should meet if they come out here?”

“Are you crazy? I want your mom to not run away screaming. I swear, my mother probably already has a list of venues. She has this book that she’s always flipping through when she talks about setting me up.”

“It’s just because she loves you.”

“I know,” Darcy said. And she did. They’d never truly understand each other, but every day—every conversation, was better.

“It’s not my mom that you need to worry about. I can only imagine what would happen if your mom and my grandmother met. Add Toula to the mix and our lives will be planned out before you can blink,” Jake said with a laugh that told her he wasn’t completely horrified by the possibility of their future being planned out.

It warmed her heart to hear how easily he talked about it. Not that she had any plans to get married in the near future. And Jake knew that. Well, she hoped he knew that.

“You have this little furrow, right here,” he said, brushing his thumb over the spot between her eyes.

“I do not,” she grumbled.

“Don’t freak out, okay. They can try to plan anything they want, but we will go at our own pace. Your master’s is almost done, and then you’ll be working on your doctorate. I cannot wait to call you Dr. Darcy. Definitely some role-playing in our future with that,” he said, giving her a wink.

“Oh really? Lab coats do it for you?”

“Anything you do does it for me,” he said, then rolled her underneath him and wiped away any thoughts of meddling mothers and future plans.

It was just the two of them, here and now. She hadn’t started out with this goal in mind, but she wouldn’t change it for anything.
