I ached to reach for her hand again, but I used my nervous energy to shove the rest of my raspberry bar in my mouth before urging her to continue.
“I started as an intern at Scrumptious during my last year at school and fell in love with it. It’s never dull. We get to play around with every type of food you can imagine, developing recipes and coming up with creative ways to showcase the food.”
“You’re a culinary producer? I think Jax mentioned that.”
“Yep. Promoted from assistant producer six months ago. Youngest culinary producer at the company. I oversee at least a dozen recipe developers and video producers.”
“That’s fucking awesome, Cas. I’m so proud of you.”
“Umm, thanks,” she said before going back to nibbling on her pastry.
“So what else? Any pets? Roommates? Boyfriends?” I wanted to kick myself as soon as the words were out of my mouth. Way to be cool about it, dumbass.
“Seriously? We’re jumping right into that?”
“Just getting updated,” I said with a shrug, and she laughed. Damn. I’d missed that laugh.
“Anyway, how’s it going with the guys?”
I didn’t miss that she avoided answering my question, but I wasn’t going to ask her again. I’d stew on it instead, not wanting to ruin this moment. She was actually talking to me, and I’d take whatever I could get.
For now.
