“Felicity, do you have a minute?”
Drying my hands with the dishtowel on the counter, I lean against the counter and smile at Scarlett with a nod. I know her fiancé is Taylor, who owns Country Road. I’ve heard from my mom that Scarlett, Grant, and Connor all moved here from the same town. I’m not sure if she’s going to come at me for hurting her friend but regardless, nerves skirt my spine.
“Sure.”
“Taylor would kill me if he knew I was getting involved but what he doesn’t know . . .”
I like Scarlett. She looks sweet and innocent, but I can tell there is a feistiness deep inside. Her smile grows as she takes a seat at the kitchen table. I’m not sure what she’s going to say but if she’s sitting, I may as well too. I take a spot across from her and wait.
“Do you love Connor?”
Choking on nothing, I gasp for air as I wait for her to laugh. When she doesn’t, I sit and stare at her before glancing at Ashton. Her brows are raised high on her forehead as her eyes urge me to answer.
“I don’t—”
“That was rude. I shouldn’t have asked you that. Look, I love Connor, but he is a stubborn ass sometimes. If you want to make your relationship work, you’re going to have to take the initiative.”
If this is how girls’ night ends with these ladies, I may have to rethink future invitations.
