"Not even then."
Madison twirls, and our eyes meet. From that point on, she dances for me. She sways, slides, and spins around the pole, and to my surprise, she approaches where I am, provocatively, as if to say:you can look, but you can't touch.
You're mistaken, girl. You will be mine.
The song ends, she exits, and I stand up.
"Leaving already?" my brother asks.
"Yes. How is she getting home?"
"Taxi or train, like all the others."
"Dismiss her now. I'll take her."
"Zeus," he says, as a warning.
"I know what I'm doing. Add five thousand dollars as a tip for her tonight, then Madison won't have had a bad evening."
"She wouldn't make that much in a single night, and you know it."
"Then today must be her lucky day."
Half an hour later, I wait with my driver in the car at the back door of the club. It’s not long before I see her coming out, wearing jeans and a tank top.
I open the car door. "Madison."
I'm not sure if she can see me, because she takes a step back and asks suspiciously, "Who are you?"
I step out of the car.
"Zeus . . . ?"
"I'll take you home."
Though she seemed surprised to find me here, she raises her proud chin again. "Ever thought of asking instead of assuming in a conversation? It would be more polite."
"Politeness isn't one of my characteristics. Now, get in. It's late."
"I don't need a ride."
"I didn't say you needed one, but I'll take you anyway to make sure you get home safely."
She bites her lower lip, and again, I can tell she’s waging an internal battle with herself. "Just a ride?" she asks.
"What else could it be, Madison? What dirty thoughts are polluting that beautiful head? Or maybe you're just scared of me."
As I expected, given her previous behavior, she challenges me: "I'm not afraid of anything."
"Then what's stopping you from getting in my car?"
She looks back and notices the security guard is watching us.
"He knows who I am, so he can serve as a witness if you disappear."
She looks back at me.
"You wouldn't hurt me. I've been around dangerous people before. You're arrogant, but you're not evil."
