He was back.
With the most mouthwatering aroma of spiced meat and herbs. I licked my lips as if I could taste the food on them. I fisted my hands at my side. Standing outside the bathroom, he’d personally brought it to tempt me.
At this point I would have eaten the legs off the table if they were seasoned. But I wasn’t about to ask him to feed it to me.
Mr. Holdt appeared by my side. His hand passed under my nose.
Another wave of delicious, drool worthy flavor assaulted my senses.
He nudged me toward the living room and onto the couch. Not the kitchen table as I’d have assumed to be the correct place to eat.
I sat down and tried to sit away from him. All right, I could withstand the amazing smells. I wouldn’t ask him for a damn thing.
My mind was foggy from going without food. He placed a bite against my lips. The juices from the cooked meat dripped onto my bottom lip. My stomach flipped and growled at me for my stubbornness.
The tantalizing smell of steak made my knees weak. It was a good thing I was already sitting down.
Without thought, I opened my mouth.
He slid the juicy morsel inside.
I shut my eyes tight as my taste buds burst in my mouth. It was amazing.
Another piece was pressed against my lips again.
It couldn’t hurt anything to eat a few bites, right? Just another bite.
Mad at myself for even entertaining the thought, I pushed him away only to have his laugh echo around me.
“Suit yourself.” He turned from me and began to eat right next to me.
The nerve of this man. He was denying me the chance to eat unless I caved to his desires.
With the room being so quiet, the sound of him chewing was almost erotic.
How was he so comfortable sitting in the dark eating?
It was the evil in him. My thoughts whirled with ideas as I bordered on delirium.
He was used to the darkness because it was the same color as his soul. Pure evil must thrive in this type of circumstance.
Then my brain caught up to the reality of the situation. I had questions that demanded answers.
I sat up from where I started slouching, working to get some of my stubborn backbone in place. I ignored the fatigue that had overtaken my body.
“How are you able to see? You move around as if the lights aren’t off.”
“You’re correct. I can see in the dark. I’m wearing a pair of night vision glasses I created. My company is in the process of producing them for the military.” He smiled with pride.
I could feel his smile even in the darkness.
I glared at his smugness.
“Just because you need to be trained doesn’t mean I should go without eating or be inconvenienced.” His words fueled my anger with the answer to my unspoken question.
Thoughts of Andy weren’t even on my mind. He’d managed to push everything that wasn’t food to the side.
Hunger ravaged my thoughts. I had to stay strong.
