Page 82 of Consume Me

That’s why this damn fight can’t happen.

Once it’s night, we walk straight to The Cave. The place is packed, with students cramming inside to watch the fight.

I approach Tyson and say, “Could you please not fight?”

“Sorry, Mia.”

“This has nothing to do with me and we both know it.”

He hikes a brow. “So what? A fight is a fight.”

The masses part for Blake, who reaches us. He jerks a chin in greeting and passes me by.

“Am I invisible, Blake?” I snap, reaching my breaking point.

He stiffens but walks toward the bar where the guys are.

I stride in their direction and tell the guys. “Someone stop this idiot.”

“We tried,” mumbles Kaden.

“Stop worrying about him, sis. He’s a big guy.”

The music pounds, but not harder than my heart. I promise myself this is the last and only time I will do this. But I am desperate, so I walk to Blake and say, “Don’t fight.”

“Why? This is your chance to fucking date.”

“You want that, Blake? Me with someone else? Kissing someone else, fucking someone else?”

His entire body ripples, as if he can barely restrain the volcano inside of him. I take it as a good sign.

“It wouldn’t bother you if I went on a date with Tyson, right?” I don’t even know where this surge of confidence came from.

He marches into the ring, followed by Tyson, who says, “Thanks, Mia. It would have been a shame to fight against him when he’s not enraged.”

A scream sits at the tip of my tongue.

Blake beckons Tyson with two fingers, and he’s too eager to accept the invitation. If the first fight was a rainstorm, this one is an all-out hurricane, leaving nothing but destruction behind. Blake throws one punch after the other. He doesn’t even appear human at the moment. Tyson is trying to hold his own, landing a few hits, but Blake is a machine. I am afraid he’s going to kill him.

I hop into the ring, and when Blake sees me, Tyson delivers a right hook straight to his jaw.Blake responds with an elbow straight to his throat, and Tyson flies to his back.

“Stop.” I take Blake’s hand in mine, and he cracks his neck.

“I was ready to lose. I guess you don’t want to be free to see someone else while I’m still alive.”

He wants a fight right here, right now. He’ll get one.

“I thought you wanted that.”

Blake’s attention is on me even when Tyson stands. I shake my head at the idiot for not staying down.

“Go to him, and I will make it hurt even worse,” Blake warns.

“I won’t if you stop fighting.”

“You have two options, Silver. Run and I will chase you, and when I catch you, I’m going to fuck you. Hard. Or… I am going to fuck him up.”

I don’t even think. A concoction of adrenaline and lust pumps through my blood, making me take off. Everything happens in a blur as I run outside, heading toward the woods on pure instinct.
