Agent Valent gave her another smile.“I would like to get you out of this crowd and somewhere more secure.”

She checked out the crowd. She shook her head.“I’ll see you soon, Nick.Drive carefully,” she pleaded with him.

“I am.But nothing is keeping me from you.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.You took ten years off my life.”

“Hold that against him, not me.I was just pouring drinks, minding my own business.”

“A fucking knife,” he said in awe.“Damn but you’re tough.”

“Don’t you forget it.”She loved his praise. It went right to the heart of her.

“Never.I can’t believe I almost lost you.Again.You’re mine, Ari.I love you so much. And I need you in my life.”

“I am yours. And I’m not going anywhere.Let’s hope Lopez got the message, too.”

Nick actually laughed.“I think you drove the point home.”

Chapter thirty-seven

Javierrantohistruck, jumped in, and sped away before the three guys following him caught up.They had to be agents.

He hit the heel of his hand on the steering wheel, once, twice, three times, then stared at the knife sticking out of his arm and the blood soaking his shirt. It hurt like hell. The cut across his forearm stung like a thousand bees.

He’d get to the place he rented, pull out the damn knife, and bandage himself up with the leftover supplies Dr.Pike had given him after he fixed up Javier’s gunshot wound.

He never expected the woman to fight him like that.

And now he wanted to teach her a lesson all the more.

Agent Gunn would think he’d won this round. He’d be proud of his girl for standing up for herself. But she was still dead.Nothing had changed. She’d only made him more determined to take her out.

And he’d make it hurt.

She better watch out, because he was coming for her.

Half a mile down the road, he started thinking more clearly. Now was the time to go after them. Now was when they’d think he’d retreated.

What the fuck was he waiting for? He’d been in this town too long.He had other things to do, a business to run.

He didn’t hide.He didn’t give his enemies time to plan.He struck the deadly blow swiftly, so everyone knew they couldn’t fuck with him.

And if a fucking agent duped him, that motherfucker died a painful death.

One way or another, this ended tonight!

So he considered his options and came up with the perfect plan, anticipating Nick’s next move.

Oh, yes, he’d get that girl for what she did to him.And in doing so, he’d hurt Nick, right before he took the fucker out.

Chapter thirty-eight

Nickhadbeenfranticto see Aria after Javier tried to kidnap her.If he’d gotten her out of the bar… Well, he didn’t want to think about what would have happened.

The thought of losing Aria scared him to death.Without her, the rest of his life looked bleak. He didn’t even want to contemplate it.
