Instead, he cupped her face.“I’m sorry.”
She shook her head.“Not your fault.None of it.”The first tear slipped over her lashes and down her cheek.
He gently brushed it away with his thumb. Then the next. And the next.Until he pulled her into his chest and she cried all over his shirt as he held her in a loose embrace and she tried to burrow her way into him.
“Ambulance will be here in a few minutes,” Mason said.
She gasped and turned to look at him beside her.“There’s another man.Probably Brian. Those two are always together.”
Mason nodded.“Nick got him before we came in.He’s in cuffs right outside. We have Amy in custody, too, along with Tanya. They’re all going down for this.”
She looked up at Fox.“Tanya?”
“Pretty sure she masterminded this whole thing.”
“Fucking bitch.”She caught herself, realizing that it had to be devastating for Fox to have his mom do this to him.“Sorry.You must be—”
“Enraged.Out for blood.Ready to make sure none of them ever leaves a cell for the rest of their lives.Yeah, sweetheart, I’m all that and more. But more than anything, I’m relieved you’re alive.”
“Me, too.So I can tell you again how much I love you.I knew you’d come for me.”
He brushed his hand down her tangled hair.“You’re not mad that this happened because of me.”
She shook her head as Mason dropped down beside her and undid the ropes around her ankles.“Not your fault. All you ever did was love me.”
“I plan to do that forever if you’ll let me.Even if you won’t,” he confessed.
“We’re building a life together, remember?You promised.”
He hugged her close.“I promise I’ll always keep you safe.”
She knew what that meant.“I don’t need guards.I just need you.”
“Yeah, well, you’re getting security as well.”He looked down at her.“Please.For my sanity.”
“We’ll talk about it when we move to Boston.”
His eyes went wide.“You still want to come with me?”
“No one is going to take away our dream, or split us up.Not Amy.Not Josh. Not your mother.”
“Tanya is not my mother. She’s nothing to me.Youare everything.”He brought her hands up and kissed her knuckles on both hands, then gently undid the ropes. She winced and cried some more as the abrasive cord left her tender skin.
“Ambulance is here,” Dean announced, stepping close.“You okay?”
She put her hands flat against Fox’s chest, right over his heart.“I am now.”
Fox kissed her on the head, then lightly brushed his thumb over the goose egg knot on her forehead.“What happened here?”
“Headbutted Amy and broke her nose, then that fuckface when he tried to rape me.”
“That’s my girl.So fucking fierce.”He brushed her hair back and stared down at her.“I love you so much.”
“I love you, too.Now can we get out of here?I hate this place.”
“Can you walk?”Dean asked.
She leaned into Fox’s side as he wrapped his arm around her.“Don’t let go.”
