But maybe her kidnappers would be stupid enough to call Fox for the ransom. He was a super genius when it came to computers. She bet he could hack his way into finding out where the phone was calling from.If not him, then Mason and the FBI could do it.Because Fox wouldn’t leave anything to chance. Not when it came to her. He’d call Mason the second he suspected something was wrong.

The two of them had hit it off at the family dinner. They’d talked a lot about tech.

She didn’t understand most of it, but she knew Fox would use any means necessary to get her back.Including his vast financial resources. He’d pay any amount.

And she hated that for him.He shouldn’t have to squander it on three assholes who thought they could take her and his money and get away with it.

The door squeaked on its hinges, alerting her that someone was coming in.With the hood still over her face, she could only see shadows through the fabric in the dimly lit space.

Her heart raced as she waited to see what happened next.

“I bet you’re scared shitless right now.”Amy.Gloating.

“Not really.”Though the rough ropes were digging into her wrists, making them raw and bloody.

“You should be.”

“Why?What are you going to do to me?Hurt me?Kill me?Do you really think Fox will pay if you do either of those things?”

“Oh, he’ll pay. He’s so fucking desperately in love with you, he’ll pay anything to get you back.”If she couldn’t have Fox, she’d take the consolation prize. His money.

“I bet that really pisses you off.I saw the utter disgust and rage that you’d tricked him written all over his face.He hated that you’d touched him.You know why?Because I’m the only one he wants touching him.The second he touched you, he threw you out of his bed.”

“You fucking bitch!”Amy’s hands slammed into Melody’s shoulders, sending her and the chair back.

Melody hit the hard-packed dirt with a thud, slamming her head into the ground. She lost her breath for a second, but then she laughed.“You want a go at me again?Untie me and I’ll mess up your face even more than I already have.”

Amy screamed, the door squealed again, then just as Amy grabbed Melody’s thigh, she was pulled away.

“Don’t touch her again.”This time the gruff voice was different from the guy who’d pulled her into the van.Had to be the driver.“I told you to leave her alone. We’ll make the call, get our money, and we’ll be out of here.No harm.No foul.”

Except Melody had been harmed. She’d been scared, tied up, and left wondering if she was going to die tonight. This morning? The bar had closed at midnight on Wednesday. She’d left around one-thirty and got to Fox’s maybe twenty minutes later. It had to be like three in the morning now.Maybe later.

Amy sure had been hurt, too.She bet Amy sported a black eye and bruised jaw to go with her busted lip and broken nose.

And kidnapping was very foul. Not to mention taking money away from a good man.

“How did you even know about the money?”She didn’t think Fox would share that with Amy.

“None of your business,” the guy whispered, still trying to conceal his voice.

“Since I’m the one you kidnapped, and we’re talking about my boyfriend’s money, I think it very much is my business, asshole.”

“That smart mouth could get you hurt.”

“What are you going to do about it?Set Amy on me?The woman who has fucked whatever plan you had to take me and not get caught. If I were Amy, and smart, I’d be wondering what you two guys were going to do about the fact that Amy will be tied to the kidnapping. How are you going to keep her from giving you up?I mean, she’s proven already to be a liability.”

“Shut up, you bitch!”

Melody couldn’t do anything except stare straight at the black hood and wonder if these three idiots had ever really had a good plan in place.“You do realize my brother-in-law is an FBI agent, right? So the second he finds out I’m missing, what do you think he’s going to do?I think he’ll check the traffic cams downtown from where you took me from. Then he’ll pull surveillance from not only Fox’s building, but the businesses along the street. They’ll find the van, which direction it went, maybe even see who was driving.”

Suddenly the chair tipped back up and she got a little dizzy from the sudden jarring movement that had her sitting upright in the chair once again.“Shut the fuck up.”The low, growled warning didn’t deter her.

No.She was beyond angry.Fear didn’t even play a factor. These stupid chumps didn’t know who they were messing with.“Who’s scared now?”

“Fox will pay the ransom.”Amy sounded so sure and confident.

“Or he and my FBI brother-in-law will find you and have you locked up behind bars.Forever.”
