“I won’t hesitate to take you out of there if you try anything. Got it?”

He nodded, his eyes wide. “And stop messing with my phone.”

“Yes, sir.”

I got out to open his door, and as soon as he stepped out of the car, I took his hand firmly in mine, and he glanced up at me in surprise.

“I’m holding onto you from now on, so you may as well get used to it.”

He blushed and nodded again. Those little blushes of his were so cute they were killing me.

Chapter Four

Kitt

Guys like Rio had always been my weakness. The ones who were large and in charge had always really done it for me, and the fact that Rio was also really good looking and had all those muscles didn’t hurt a bit. I liked him a lot to tell the truth, and I had even been a little relieved when I looked up and saw him at that club in Las Vegas. Well, maybe not so much that he’d found me and was taking me home to Atlanta. But I was relieved that I hadn’t hurt him when I hit him with that phone.

But I had been out of money and really scared, and I knew I might be in over my head. I stayed a long time to check his breathing and didn’t leave until he was moaning and starting to wake up.

Jack and his Daddy were being nice to me, but I knew I couldn’t stay with them for long. Their apartment was small, and Jack didn’t work. I couldn’t very well, expect Jack’s Daddy to keep me up. Besides, Jack was my friend, and he was finally happy, and I didn’t want to mess that up. He’d had to leave his home in Atlanta because my father had told his father about catching us in that club in Atlanta. And his father had kicked him out. So in a way, I was responsible.

Jack had run to Vegas and met his Daddy there. I wished I had a Daddy to help me out with things sometimes. Someone like Rio. He was really strict with me, which sort of pissed me off, but then also made me feel kind of funny in the pit of my stomach, like butterflies beating their wings to get out. He didn’t let me get away with a thing, and he was firm with me. He was really bossy and told me what to do all the time too. I wonderedif he’d be that bossy in bed. I thought he probably would be. The idea thrilled me.

We went inside and the waitress seated us. She looked pointedly at our joined hands, but when I got embarrassed and tried to pull away, he wouldn’t let me and just stared right back at her. She flushed and took us to a booth, leaving us some menus and telling us our waitress would be right with us. She just nodded when Daddy asked if they served breakfast there all day.

(I just thought I’d try that out in my head to see how it sounded. I didn’t say it out loud. But it sounded just right.)

I really wanted pancakes, but I thought he might say I couldn’t have them because they were probably in his category of “junk food I didn’t need.” But he surprised me by ordering them for me, getting me eggs and bacon, too. He ordered me milk to go along with my coffee, saying that he always drank milk when he had pancakes, because the pancakes were so sweet. He said I should be drinking more milk, because it was good for me.

He didn’t talk much after that, but just sat beside me, watching me, as the waitress came to take our order and give us some cups and a carafe of coffee. He must have already eaten, because he only drank his coffee. I loved coffee, too, but I always had to fix it up, with lots of sugar and cream. Those little packets of sugar barely gave you half a teaspoon, so I usually used like six of them, along with a bunch of little cream things.

He watched me as I made a big production of fixing some until I got it just right and shook his head at me, but he didn’t try to tell me it was too much. I liked that about him, because my brother usually shamed me about “liking a little coffee with my cream and sugar.” My brother Jazz took his coffee black and so did Rio. I didn’t see how they could drink it that way, but vice versa, I guess.

I practically wolfed down my food when it arrived, until Rio told me to “slow down and chew,” in his bossy voice.

“You’re not my Daddy,” I said, wondering how he’d answer me.

He glanced up at me sternly. “Maybe not. But if anybody ever needed a Daddy, it’s you, kiddo.”

I almost spewed out a mouthful of milk, and he had to thump me on my back to keep me from choking.

As soon as I recovered, I turned to him. “Oh my God! You know, don’t you?”

“Know what?”

I glared at him. I had no doubt that Jazz had shared my secret with him when he hired him. I was humiliated and anger flew all over me.

“Jazz told you, didn’t he?”

“Jazz told me a lot of things. You’re going to have to be more specific, kiddo.”

I looked around to see if anyone was sitting close enough to overhear and then I leaned closer and hissed at him. “You know exactly what I mean. He told you how my father hired a detective to follow me around and then he called him when I went into the BDSM club.”

“I know about the club. What else do you think he told me?”

“How the detective went to the Littles Room and found me in there. It was not like it looked, though. I wasn’t doing anything! Not really.”

He squeezed my thigh and leaned over to whisper to me. “You’re getting loud. Calm down or I’ll have to take you out of here.”
