Prologue

Alex

Thepoundinginmyhead is fucking horrible. It feels like somebody took a cast iron pan to my skull. Fuck. I get the courage to open my eyes and it’s dark, so I can’t see anything. Dizziness hits and suddenly everything is spinning. I see a little light coming from underneath the door, only that’s not where my door usually is. That’s when it hits me- the musky scent, the feel of the bedding… The door isn’t where it’s supposed to be because this isn’t my room.

Where the fuck am I?

I remove the blanket and the cool air rushes over every inch of my body. My naked body. What the fuck? No, no, no. I can’t be naked.

Bile rises in my throat. I couldn’t have slept with someone. I mean, I know I made threats to, but I didn’t want anybody to touch the body he has touched. I’m his. Only he isn’t mine. Not anymore.

The door knob rattles and I grab the blanket to cover myself from this stranger. The door opens slowly and in the light, I see the tall lean figure of a guy.Fuck, Alex, what the fuck have you done?I swear I’m such a dumb bitch.

He makes his way to the bed and I cringe.

“Where am I?” All I can see is his silhouette, and he stops dead in his tracks.

“Oh, you’re awake,” he says hesitantly.

“Yes, I’m awake. Where am I?” The panic in my voice cannot be mistaken. “Did we…”

“Oh, no. Ma’am, we didn’t do anything. Don’t worry, you were far too drunk and I wouldn’t take advantage of a lady.”

A lady? Why is he talking so weird?

“Okay, well why am I naked?”

He laughs.

“Well, you tried to, uhm…” He clears his throat. “...do something. That’s why you’re naked. You took off all your clothes but I assure you ma’am, I didn’t take advantage of you in your drunken state.”

Ma’am? Who is this guy?

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. This is embarrassing. It’s just that I just went through a breakup and I…”

He puts his hand up to stop me, turning on a small bedside lamp and I slam my eyes shut at the unwelcome brightness. “You don’t have to explain yourself,” he pauses. “Again.”

I slap my palm to my forehead and sigh. I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not.

“Well, do you know where my clothes are, sir?” My eyes fly open when I feel the bed shift, his hand stretched out to me with Tylenol and water. I look up at his face, and holy fuck is he gorgeous. Dirty blond hair, blue eyes, and muscles for days. My stomach turns and a weird feeling runs through me… Guilt, maybe? Kohen’s face flashes through my mind, and I look away as I take the offering from his hand.

“Thought you might need those. I’m Levi, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.” His hand extends to me for a handshake, his Southern accent clear now that I’m awake and the buzz is fading.

“I’m…” I start to say before his smooth Southern drawl interrupts me again.

“Alex, right? You told me last night and yelled at me for asking if it was short for something.” Our laughter fills the room.

“I’m sorry.” I tuck my wild hair behind my ear and peer up at him, heat flushing my cheeks. I don’t know who this guy is but I have a feeling we will be fast friends.

Chapter 1

Kohen

Lovingherwaslikegetting hit by lightning, once in a lifetime, and beautiful. Unparalleled, and it hurt like fucking hell. Loving her almost killed me. Not literally, but in every way I could die I feel like I did, and I bet she remains unfazed. That’s Alex- she doesn’t need anyone and she proved that. Including me.

I tried calling her back. I wanted to explain that the girl who answered my phone wasn’t who she thought it was. Alex blocked me. I expected it. Always jumping to conclusions which is exactly why we aren’t together right now.

Still, I ran to her Instagram like a pussy whipped bitch. I saw she was out and about, hanging on the arm of some pretty boy and sitting in the center of a group of guys doting over her body.Mybody, but she isn’t mine anymore, is she? I gave up, I walked away and now I’m paying the price. All the time I spent making sure she knew I loved her, that I wouldn’t hurt her, or leave. It was for nothing.
