Loki ran in. “Hey. Hey, what’s going on?”

“He lied. He said he would tell Surtr we weren’t here if I won, but he said he couldn’t promise his siblings would do the same.”

“Okay. Okay.” Loki smoothed her hair and lifted her to her feet.

“What the hell was all this for if we are still going to be hunted?”

“I’ll fix it.”

“How?” she demanded. “How are you going to fix this? Do you want me to take out all his siblings?”

“No.” Loki’s voice remained calm. “No. You made a deal with him, and he has to keep it. It’s possible his siblings aren’t aware of the contract. It’s not like they are all shary shary. Let me talk to them. I have an idea. I’ll fix it. I promise. All right?”

She nodded as the cyclops entered, grabbed Almax by his arm, and dragged him out.

“I gotta get out of here,” she said. “I just... I can’t...”

“Come on. I know what you need to do.”

Loki led her to the exit and stepped into the darkened street.

“Where are we going?”

Loki winked at her. “My place.”

CHAPTER 12

Loki’s furyat Almax’s trying to take advantage of Val was almost too much for him to bear. He wanted to go back, find the fallen angel, and cut his head off for lying. But that would be no good. So, he’d have to do things more prudently— with money.

But that would have to wait until tomorrow morning. At the moment, he had a more important promise to fulfill. He needed to help Val.

He poured two ales and walked from his modern stark white kitchen into the spotless white and cream living room and through one of the sliding glass doors onto the balcony which overlooked Los Angeles.

“This is incredible,” Val said.

Loki gave her the mug. “Thank you. I like seeing the entire area but still feel like I have my own space.”

“I had no clue these hills had houses on them. Surrounded by the forest made it feel like your own private kingdom.”

“I can do whatever I want up here, and no one bothers me.”

She sipped the ale. “Whatever, huh? And what kind of ‘whatever’ types of things have you done up here?”

He caught the faintest smile on her lips. “I’ve walked around naked in the house.”

She rolled her eyes. “Hasn’t everyone?”

“I’ve done yoga out here naked.”

She shrugged. “Better.”

Ooohhhh, a challenge. “I’ve had sex on the grass and in the pool.”

She rolled her eyes again.

“I’ve flown through the trees during a full moon to watch the shifters run.”

She turned to him. “Wait. You’ve flown up here?”
