She turned to him. “Get what?”

“I’ll go. But give some thought to coming on Friday. Especially since I can’t promise Odin won’t come up here if you don’t show.”

“It’s that aggressive, do what I say or else, bullshit which made me hate him in the first place.”

“Join the club.”

They stared at each other in awkward silence, and Loki nodded. “Well... goodnight, Signe.”

His use of her name punched her in the gut.

“Loki?”

“Yeah?”

She shoved her hands in his back pockets. “I will talk to you again.”

“Tomorrow?”

She laughed. “Are you pushy or just clingy?”

He smiled. “How about we say I’m persistent, and when I find something I want, I go for it and don’t let anything stand in my way.” Loki cupped her face and pulled her lips to his. “And I want you, Signe.”

Her heart shuddered when his lips brushed hers. She squeezed his butt and pulled him against her. He backed her into her door. His kisses heated, and his hands moved down and brushed over her breasts before he rolled his thumbs over her nipples. Val couldn’t hold back the moan which escaped her. Her core heated, and she wanted him again.

“Loki,” she panted.

“Signe.” He nipped at her ear.

“I... I think we should continue this inside.”

She plunged her tongue into his mouth, claiming it, but he jerked away, leaving her panting against the door.

“Not now. Now, you need to sleep.”

She shook her head, trying to comprehend his words through the haze of need and aching. “Are you serious?”

He nodded and kissed the tip of her nose. “Completely. Good night, love.” He kissed her cheek and sauntered down the hall before snapping his fingers and disappearing.

He was serious. He was leaving her hot and bothered and needy for release.

Touché.Loki. Touché.

CHAPTER 10

Despite having only gottena few hours sleep, she felt more rejuvenated and... content? Happy even? No. She wouldn’t go that far.

She spread her wings and inspected them before putting them away again. She gazed out the window and once again longed for the sky. But now wasn’t the time. She needed to get to work and make sure Elle was all right.

When Val walked downto work, Benjinn already sat at the bar. Her stomach flopped. It would be easier if he didn’t come in anymore, but she couldn’t throw him out because he hadn’t been able to handle what she held inside. She walked to the bar and slid behind it. The other bartender nodded as she washed her hands and cataloged what needed to be refilled. She felt Benjinn’s eyes on her back, but she wasn’t ready to face him. What did she say?

Oh, hey. Sorry, you witnessed me go wackadoo on Odin last night. I’m not that much of a freak, but, you know, he ripped me from my mom when I was little and forced me to fight in his army until I was the only one left, and then I was kidnapped by a sadist.

Yeah, that would go over well.

Val did everything possible for several minutes to ignore Benjinn, but when he called for a drink, she had no choice but to pay attention to him.

“Hi,” he said.
