Pushing her on the swing set, I saw a glimmer of what we could have, like I have every other time she’s allowed me to hold her hand or simply smiled at me. When she kissed me, my world changed. There’s no way I can be content with being in the background anymore.
I need to be close to her.
I need her in my arms.
I know that now.
Did it hurt that she said my brother’s name after she kissed me? Of course.
But I understood, and when she gave me the chance to show her who was actually kissing her, my axis shifted.
She’s this beautiful ray of sunshine that I forever want to bathe in.
When I look at her now, I just see her.
I don’t care that she was my brother’s first. I don’t care that her babies aren’t mine.
She’s just Ramsey. She’s this beautiful omega with the brightest soul I’ve ever seen, smothered by her grief and pain, but not enough to put out her fire, and she’s mine.
ChapterThirty-Two
RAMSEY
“Good morning, Baby Doll.”
Forde’s sleepy voice in my ear makes me smile as I take a sip of my coffee, holding my phone to my ear with my shoulder.
“Morning, sleeping beauty. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
He chuckles down the line, groaning, and I can imagine him in his bed, stretching. The blankets and sheets are probably a mess around his legs, and I bet he’s shirtless.
I shift in my seat when I sit at the table and clear my throat.
“You can wake me up anytime. What’s up?” he asks finally, sounding a bit more alert now.
“I have a favor to ask,” I say, stirring my coffee absentmindedly.
“Anything.”
“Can you take me to my doctor’s appointment? It’s gotten nearly impossible for me to drive comfortably now, and Jilly is atJinxtoday, so I can’t ask her.”
I grimace, wondering if it’s too much to ask him to go with me, but I kind of want him to come. I’ve hated going to all of my appointments alone. All the other expectant mothers have their partners with them usually, and then there’s me. Walking in all alone for every milestone.
It’s sucked.
“Of course. What time?” Forde says instantly, not even having to think about it.
“I need to be there by noon. Are you sure you don’t mind?”
“I don’t mind, Baby Doll. Seriously. Let me hop in the shower real quick and I’ll be right over,” he assures me, and I hear him getting up and rustling around his room.
“Okay.”
“I’ll see you in a few,” he says before hanging up.
I toss my phone down and sigh, taking another sip of my coffee. My face lights up with a smile whenever I see the babies rolling around in my belly. It’s kind of weird to see, like there’s an alien inside of me trying to break out. Or... three. I can just barely see a foot push against me when I lift my shirt, and I gently press against the spot with a finger. The foot quickly disappears, and on my other side, an elbow presses into my side. Or maybe it’s a knee.
“You guys are certainly active today, aren’t you?” I whisper with a smile, resting my hand on top of my stomach, and laugh when one of them kicks against me in response.
