“Alpha Garrick!” the crowd roared. There were fists raised in celebration and whistles. Some people even threw streamers and confetti into the air.

I sucked in a breath and looked over at everyone. A sense of pride and responsibility, equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, filled me. These people looked to me for guidance, for protection. I would not let them down. Noel came to my side. He held my hand.

My father continued, “And his mate, Noel. We welcome him to this pack. Fate blessed our Alpha with his fated. A true sign that Garrick is ready to lead you all.”

More cheering. I pulled Noel closer to my side, inhaling the scent of him.

“Congratulations,” he whispered in my ear. “Alpha.”

I let out a low growl, heat building in my stomach.

“Congratulations to you, Alpha Mate.”

Chapter 19

Noel

When the alarm clock went off on the first morning of officially being mated and becoming the Alpha Mate of Garrick’s pack, I was already awake. My mate, on the other hand, grabbed a pillow and put it over his head.

“Since when do we set alarms? Do you need alarms to wake up?”

I chuckled at that. Despite knowing that we were fated and feeling incredibly happy, there was still so much we didn’t know about one another. We had a lifetime to learn. It was crazy to think that I had essentially only known Garrick for two weeks, yet here I was mated to him and expecting his pup. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“No, I don’t need an alarm. I usually wake up at the same time every day.”

“Me too. So why did we set one?”

My hands trailed over his bare back. “It’s your first day as Alpha.”

He finally took the pillow off. “Yeah, it is. It feels weird. Or maybe that’s just because I was used to being on vacation.”

“It does feel weird, but I know that you’ll be great.”

“Did you set an alarm so that I would be sure to get out of bed? That’s very sweet,” he said with a grin. He rolled over onto his back and threaded his fingers through my hair. His bare chest begged for my touch.

“Well, yes, partially,” I admitted.

Garret glanced at the clock on the nightstand. “Goodness. This is at least an hour earlier than I’m used to getting up. I appreciate the sentiment, mate, but it’s going to be a long day. I need my beauty sleep.”

I laughed at that. The last thing my mate needed was to be more beautiful. Watching him walk around and interact with his pack after the ceremony yesterday had been the biggest turn-on.

“I know what time you usually get up. I did just spend a whole week with you in a cabin. I don’t know everything, but I do know that—”

I put both hands on his chest and pushed him back toward the bed. We had slept naked because that was what was comfortable. I climbed onto him, my knees resting on either side of his hips.

His eyes darkened in understanding. “What did you have in mind, mate? We seem to have extra time all to ourselves.”

“I just wanted to make sure you started this day off on the right foot,” I said. “I think as Alpha Mate, it’s my number one responsibility to make sure my Alpha is taken care of in all ways.”

Garrick gripped my hips, lifting me off him ever so slightly. As he went to reach back to prep me, I squeezed my knees together, stopping his movements.

“There’s no need for that,” I said. “I set an alarm that you didn’t even hear.”

“Oh yeah?” he said. “And what was that alarm for?”

“For me to get myself prepped for you. I don’t want you to have to lift a finger.”

He groaned. “Mate, you’re going to be the death of me. I’m not going to want to leave this bed.”
