Shaking his head, Logan dropped down in one of the chairs in front of the fireplace and said, “It’s over.”
For more than eight hundred years, everything he did, every word out of his mouth, every step he took had one purpose, to make the men that took Elizabeth from him pay.
Nothing else mattered.
Until now.
Now, his days were filled with tea parties, coloring books, teaching children how to read and tie their shoes, and gutting a house to make his mate happy and he absolutely loved it.
More than anything.
He’d dreamed of having little girls that he could dote on and little boys that adored their mother. When Elizabeth died, he thought his dream of having a family died with her, but now…
He had no idea that it was possible to love someone this much.
He loved the demands for extra kisses, the glares that his baby girl sent him when he didn’t drink his tea fast enough, the late-night reading sessions in the library with Shane, and falling asleep holding the woman that he loved in his arms. He-
“That might be a problem,” Tomas murmured softly, looking lost in thought as he stared down at the file on the coffee table that Logan hadn’t noticed before.
“And why’s that?” Logan asked, only to have his stomach drop at the demon’s next words.

Something was wrong.
She just…
She had no idea how to explain it, but shefeltit. All day, something felt off. She couldn’t explain it, but there was an ache in her chest that just left her feeling…devasted.

Nodding solemnly, Caleb said, “I was sad about that too.”
“I know you were,” Jill said as she leaned down and kissed his forehead.
“Shane was sad, too,” Caleb told her as she stood up and leaned over him so that she could kiss Emma’s cheek.
“That’s because you snatched the last cookie out of my hand and ate it before I could stop you,” Shane said on a bored sigh as he turned the page.
“It was delicious,” Caleb assured him.
“That would explain the yummy sounds you made while you ate it,” Jill pointed out as she finished tucking the twins in.
“I wanted to let him know how good the cookie was,” Caleb said, earning a glare from his brother.
Clearing her throat as she struggled to bite back a smile, Jill said, “That was very thoughtful of you.”
“I know,” Caleb said, nodding as he turned over onto his side.
“Goodnight, Emma,” Jill said, practicing the signs that she’d been teaching herself only to smile when Emma signed back, “Goodnight, Mommy.”
She leaned over and kissed Emma’s forehead before she moved to step back and-
“Kissy!”
