“Smells good,” she says, pressing a kiss to my cheek as she sits down next to me. “Thank you.”
I nod and we both dig into our breakfast. I know she is probably starving after all the calories we just burned.
She must see the look on my face as I replay her screams as she came on my face in my head because she kicks my leg and draws my attention to her.
“Stop.”
“What?”
Her brow raises and gives me a knowing look.
“Can’t help it. You taste so good, it’s hard to forget.”
Her cheeks heat and I can’t contain my laughter.
I run my foot up her calf. “Sorry. I’ll stop. We don’t have time for you to go change your underwear or we will be late.”
“For fuck’s sake Landon. The one time you need to be at a loss for words,” she says, taking her last bite of food and standing to put her plate in the sink.
“You love it and you know it.”
“Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night.”
Together, we clean up the kitchen and play with the kittens before grabbing our jackets and heading out to the bike.
It’s finally nice enough outside to ride, so we have been taking every opportunity to get out when we can. Allie quickly learned that she prefers riding the bike up to the Sound or Cannon Beach over taking the truck. The wind and the fresh air allow both of us to calm the anxiety and nerves that come with our day-to-day recovery.
We both strap on our helmets and I toss my leg over the bike, Allie climbing on right behind me. The purr of the engine coming to life instantly settles my nerves, and I wait for Allie to wrap her arms around my waist.
Static comes from the comms system in our helmets. “Ready to fly, Bluebird?”
“Ready!” Allie’s excitement comes through the system and we set off towards The Needle.
Minutes later, we are sitting inside, and I sit at Gray’s desk as Cass adjusts the stencil on Allie’s arm.
She is adding roses, lilies, and butterflies that wrap around her upper arm. She mentioned wanting to start her partial sleeve a few weeks ago and fell in love with Cass’s style.
I planned on sitting with her all day, but last night we got a hit on Resilience that was in our team’s area. The threat level is lowand will be a quick into the mountains and out. I felt like shit, but Allie reassured me she would be more than fine and invited the girls to come sit with her instead.
Speaking of the girls, the door chimes and Willow sprints in ahead of Logan, Lainey, and Harper as they all walk into The Needle with coffees in hand.
Harper and Lainey go straight to Cass and Allie while Logan walks over to me and hands me a coffee. “Here ya go. Take care of my man.”
“Always. Take care of my girl.”
A big smile spreads across Logan’s face. “Always.”
A notification pings for Resilience on my phone, pulling my attention away.
I am busy texting Aries about another mission when Gray and Noah come in.
“Ready Lan?” Gray asks.
I nod and make my way over to everyone crowded around Allie and stand next to her.
She looks up at me, a big smile on her face. “Be safe. Text me updates.”
Leaning down, I loop my pinky through her outstretched one, give her a quick kiss, and say, “Always.”
