Grayson brushes a hair behind my ear and runs his thumb across my cheek. “That fucking sucked Angel. But I knew you were waiting for me. You are my safe space, pretty girl. You make everything better. I love you.”
Damn this man and his words.
“I love you too, Bear.”
This night may have thrown a wrench into our Christmas bliss, but it also proved once again we are stronger together.
Chapter Fourteen
Grayson
I’mlayinginbedrunning my fingers through Logan’s hair.
Tonight did not go the way I thought it was going to. Missions never do but being around people I have never met and Logan being there, did not make a good combination.
The look on Miles’ face when he saw his sister tied to that pole and listening to her screams, was fucking gut wrenching. He was trying to be strong for his sister but when she pulled away and didn’t recognize him at first, he couldn’t take it.
When I tried to pick her up to carry her to the truck, Miles snapped out of the trance he had put himself in while we were untying her. The entire drive to the hospital Miles would not stop thanking me and talking about the thousand ways he was going to kill the asshole ex-boyfriend that did that to his sister.
I know how I felt when Logan was laying on the ground the day she was attacked. All I wanted to do was hold her and never let her out of my sight. Harper snapped me out of it and helped my girl. I will never be able to repay her for what she did for not only me, but my beautiful girl.
In a way, I think this was me returning the favor to someone else.
I look down to my sleepy girl on my chest and smile. Reminding myself that she is still here and stronger than ever.
I kiss the top of her head and start to drift off to sleep when my phone vibrates. When I see its Landon, I grab it, hoping it’s not bad news about Allie or Addison.
Landon: Hey. Sorry again about tonight. Happy everyone is safe. I paid for an extra night for you guys to stay at the cabin. Thank you.
Grayson: Thanks man. You didn’t have to do that. You don’t have to apologize. See you in a couple days. Love you bro.
I put my phone back on the nightstand.
Landon thinks we don’t see it, but we all see that he blames himself when things go wrong during missions. I know he will feel like shit for this one too, but we got her out and that’s all that matters. When we get home hopefully he will see we are fine, and the guilt will wash away.
I drift off to sleep with my girl in my arms.
Buzzzz. Buzzzz.
Logan groans and buries her face in my neck. We both ignore it until it starts up again.
“Noo.” Logan grumbles.
I run my hand up and down her back. “Go back to sleep. I’ll see who it is.”
Logan mumbles something I don’t understand, and I grab my phone.
I see a missed call from Mom and Lachlan and texts from my brothers. I’m about to call Lachlan back when a text from him pops up.
Lachlan: Hey. I know y’all are probably sleeping. I just wanted to say thank you for everything. The doctors said the asshole drugged her with LSD. They gave her something to bring her down and she is feeling a lot better. She is still terrified and shaken up, but I know she will be okay. She wants to thank you and Logan for everything you did for her before y’all head back. Again, I seriously can’t thank you enough.
Grayson: I hope that asshole meets an ugly death for doing that to her. I’m glad she is feeling better. Let us know if you need help finding resources to help her. We will stop by before we head out of town to check on her and say bye.
Lachlan: Sounds good. I have a favor to ask you.
Grayson: What’s up?
Lachlan: Lainey wants to thank Logan. They helped each other out while we were waiting. And everything Logan did for Addy. Without Logan, I don’t know if we would have seen the signs that she was drugged. So Lainey asked if I could pass her number on to Logan.
