“I can’t believe what jerks my friends are being.”

Isabel jammed the key to her front door in the lock and flung it open. She smacked the light switch on and marched inside, throwing her purse into the living room armchair as she kicked off her dreadful heels. Wesley followed her in, heading straight for the couch.

“Where’s your mom and everyone? I didn’t see the suburban,” he said, looking around the quiet first floor of the twins’ house.

“Oh, she and Tyler are at my Granny’s this weekend,” Isabel replied dismissively as she swung the door closed. “Tucker is especially being a jerk tonight,” she continued, joining him on the couch. Wesley’s arm wrapped around her as she leaned against him. “He’s seriously lost it if he thinks making up stories about you will change my mind.”

“They just think they’re doing what’s best for you.”

“What they’re doing is not what’s best for me. You would not believe the bull Tucker tried to feed me tonight.”

“What did he say?”

“He told me that you told him that you had slept with other girls since we’ve been dating, and that you said that he could have me after we have sex. Isn’t that absurd?” Isabel said in disbelief, though her expression still begged for reassurance.

“That is absurd,” Wesley agreed, taking her hand. “Why in the world would I tell Tucker that if I want to be with you?” He flashed that charming smile that had worked on her so many times before.

Isabel breathed out a sigh of relief, “I know. I want to be with you, too.”

Wesley leaned in, his kiss gentle at the edge of her lips. Happy and content that he really cared for her, Isabel kissed him back, sighing as his fingers cupped her head to deepen the contact. His free hand slid down to her waist, and he leaned over her, guiding her back to lie against the couch.

“Boundary set right here,”she told herself.

Wesley nipped at her bottom lip, and her back arched as it sent tingles across her body. Lord, the boy could kiss. It was languid and deep, and she thrilled as he nipped at her again.

He slipped a hand behind her as she arched; his other hand slid to her thigh, finding the hem of her dress as he tugged at her zipper.

Her eyes flew open, and her hands pressed firmly against his chest. “Woah! What are you doing?”

“I think you know exactly what I’m doing,” he replied, leaning in again.

“Wesley, stop it.” Her pulse sped, startled that he hadn’t moved. She squirmed from under him until he sat back, giving her a look she wasn’t sure how to read.

“You just said you wanted to be with me, too.”

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Did he seriously think that’s what she had meant? “I meant that I want you as in I like you, and I want to date you…not that I want to have sex with you.”

He stood up to leave, and she heard him angrily mutter just loud enough for her to hear, “Can’t believe she’s refusing me…complete waste of my time…should’ve known I’d never get any from her.”

“Excuse me?!” Isabel screeched as she flew up from the couch, her hands on her hips. She felt as the heat hit her face.

Wesley scowled at her, his attractive features flashing a dark quality she’d never noticed before. “You heard me. You were a complete waste of time.”

“Oh, no, they were right.”“Tucker wasn’t lying to me tonight. He was telling me the truth, wasn’t he?!”

“Yeah, he was. I couldn’t waste my whole summer working up to one chick. You were the prize, Izzy. The girl no one around here could get. I never should have told Patterson. Fucking cock block.”

“Who?” she demanded. “How many?” Not that it mattered. He’d screwed up past any form of forgiveness.

Wesley rolled his eyes. “More than you want to hear. You wouldn’t have even found out if your friend knew how to keep his mouth shut.”

“You wouldn’t have gotten any anyway,” she spat.

“I seriously doubt that,” he shot back.

“You shouldn’t.”
