"Both?"

"I feelindecisive, so both." My cell phone began to ring. Unfortunately, Ihad no idea where I left it. Even Solomon looked around, a confusedexpression on his face.

"Itsounds like it's in the kitchen but I can't see it," hesaid.

Thephone stopped ringing and a moment later, it started again. I gotup, moving around until the dim ringing became louder. I opened therefrigerator door and there it was, next to the juice.

"Why isyour phone in the fridge?" asked Solomon.

Ishrugged as I answered.

"Lexi?We've got McTavett," said Kafsky.

"What doyou mean ‘you've got him’?" I asked. The image of McTavett tied upin some dark basement while Harris and Kafsky interrogated himflashed through my mind. It wouldn't be the first time they'd doneit, but possibly the first time someone deserved it.

"We haven'tgotgot him but we have our eyes fastened on him."

"Who'swe?"

"Me andHarris. We saw him leave base this morning so we hopped in a carand followed him."

"An Armyvehicle?"

"What dowe look like? Stupid? Don't answer that. No, we're in my car. It'sinconspicuous."

"Okay,good. Where is he?"

"He'ssitting in a booth at that pancake place in Chester, the one onUnderhill Road. He's looking at the menu and appears miserable butI don't think that's got anything to do with the menu. I'm gettingthe maple syrup and bacon and Harris is getting the Frenchtoast."

"I don'tneed to know your breakfast order."

"Itsmells damn good in here. Like what dreams are made of."

Therewas some muttering, then Harris came on the line. "Kafsky has gonecross-eyed with sugar," he said. "What shall we do with McTavett?Nab him after we've eaten?"

"No, Idon't think that's a good idea."

"Butfollowing him was."

"I can'tbelieve these guys defend our country," I mouthed toSolomon.

"What'sthat? I can't hear you," said Harris.

"Keep aneye on him," I told them. "I'm on my way. Order me the French toastand a juice."

"I haveto go," I said to Solomon.

"Do youwant company?"

Ithought about it for a moment. A menacing man like Solomon could bevery useful. Also, I didn't want to drive. "Yes," I decided. "Butlook mad."

"Not aproblem. You only ordered French toast for one. I'm alreadymad."

"You hadfruit for breakfast."

"And?"

"You'rehealthy!"
