“You’re going to cook?” I was surprised, since there was always something from his personal chef ready to go into the oven or microwave.

“Delaney requested pancakeswith chocolate chips. She said you make them for her all the time.” He planted his hands on either side of me before leaning in and kissing me.

I groaned, then pushed myself away from the mirror, wrapping my legs around him.

He grinned against my lips before pulling away. “You’re insatiable.” He gave me a final peck before heading out of the bathroom to make us breakfast.

For a minute, I just sat there, trying to collect myself. This Gabriel—the one who had all his walls down—was doing funny things to my insides.

I was fucked, and not just in a sexual way.

Chapter 20

Family

Gabriel

Me: Josie is trying to convince me we should take Laney down the street for a block party.

Noah: Good for her. You should go, since you aren’t coming over here. Lame.

Me: Lame is still having crazy parties like you’re in college.

Lex: Lame is not taking the night off. At least try to go have some fun.

Me: After what happened on Friday, I don’t know if it’s a good idea.

Lex: Does Laney want to go?

Me: We haven’t asked her, since I haven’t decidedyet.

Noah: What’s the worst that could happen?

Me: Laney will have a meltdown.

Lex: I hate to break this to you, but kids have meltdowns. Do you remember the fits Noah used to throw? I think you’ve lucked out with Laney.

Noah: I did no such thing!

Me: You’re an expert on children now?

Noah: It doesn’t take an expert to know that. This is like riding a bike. She fell down on Friday, but now she needs to get right back on. She’s going to end up being scared to leave the house. Let Josie help you.

Lex: Speaking of falling . . .

Me: Shut up.

I couldn’t waituntil they both met women, so I could give them shit. Seeing as they were still having parties on the regular, I didn’t see that happening anytime soon.

“What did they tell you?” Josie came around the island from where she’d been putting fruit on skewers to look like the flag.

“What?” I clicked my phone off and swiveled around, so she was standing between my legs.

“Your brothers.” She looped her arms around the back of my neck, her fingers going to the hair at my nape. “You were texting them about the block party, weren’t you?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I rested myhands on her hips, wishing I could lift her onto the island and devour her.

“Whenever you’re texting with them, you go from amused to annoyed really quick. It’s cute.” She ruffled my hair and tried to step away, but I pulled her closer.
