The sun was setting, and I smelled the aromas of roasting meat wafting from the kitchen as I walked down the stairs. Looking around the room, I found it was empty besides a lone figure on a beanbag chair watching an action movie.
I smiled to myself and walked across the room to where Xander was. He looked away from the screen for a moment to give me a small smile and then went back to watching his movie.
It shouldn't have ruffled my feathers, but my stomach flopped, and I looked around the room awkwardly. "Can I, uh, join you?"
Jesus, I sounded lame.
I approached the beanbag right next to his, and he reached out and pulled me down next to him.
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest at the sudden change in direction. Not at all because he pulled me close, his hand wrapped around me and resting on my hip.
"I... uh..." I gulped and held myself awkwardly against him, resisting the urge to put my hand on his chest and relax into him.
"You can join me, but only if you're right here next to me." He squeezed my hip and then moved his hand to rub the skin just over the waistband of my pants. "Is that all right with you?"
Was it? I didn't know what was happening. Had I ever fathomed the thought of being intimate with another guy? No. Did I loathe the idea? No.
"What about Ivy?" I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth.
"It's not like I'm asking to suck your dick right now." His eyes didn't leave the television screen. "Lay with me."
My cheeks puffed as I blew out a breath. "What if someone sees us?"
He looked at me. "So? Fuck them if they can't handle seeing two men cuddling and enjoying each other's company. Unless you're the one who can't handle it."
We stared into each other's eyes for a solid minute before I let myself relax against him. I was practically planking against his side, and he wiggled his knee between my legs and took my hand, putting it on his chest.
It felt... comfortable.
Resting my head on his chest, I turned my attention to the movie he was watching. I had no clue what it was, but they were in the middle of a car chase. I preferred reading, but hadn't even had time to do that lately.
I was very aware of Xander's hand as it slid up my side under my shirt, his fingers trailing lightly over my heated skin. Heated because my blood was boiling under his touch.
He clearly had no problems with being with a man, and that made me wonder just how many men he'd been with.
His hand left my skin and disappointment filled me, but it was only to move to my head where his fingers ran through the slicked back strands.
"I can practically hear you thinking," he mumbled.
My scalp tingled with his touch, and I shut my eyes. "I haven't uh... done anything with a guy before."
He grunted, and his fingers went to my ear. I groaned as I fisted his shirt without thinking.
"Well, you're doing a pretty good job."
I opened my mouth to respond when the door opened, and Sara's scent caused me to leap up.
She looked around the room as Bone came from the kitchen wearing an apron that saidI'm thecock in this kitchenwith a picture of a rooster cooking.
"Who the hell are you?"
Sara bypassed him and headed straight for me. We met halfway, wrapping our arms around each other. I hadn't realized how much I’d missed her until that moment, and I felt like crying.
"Can someone tell me what the hell is going on? Silas didn't say others would be showing up." Bone was hemming and hawing about dinner, Carly telling him there would be enough food, regardless.
The back door flew open with a loud clang, Ivy, Cole, and Silas coming in.
"Sara!" I was surprised that Ivy was so animated about seeing my sister again after barely meeting her. Maybe they'd really bonded over her escape from the mall and video games.
