I unhooked my belt and sat on his lap, wrapping an arm around his neck so I wouldn't fall."Hey, you're okay. I'm right here."
His eyes opened, and all I saw was the inner turmoil that was plaguing him."They took us in a helicopter."
"We aren't them."I brushed my lips across his and he relaxed a little, his arms coming around me instead of clutching the seat.
There were so many things I wanted to ask him, but landing in enemy territory wasn't the best time. I hoped with me as a buffer, Silas and Cole could put aside their differences until we took care of Dante.
We landed with a jolt, causing me to almost fly off Xander's lap. He tightened his arms around me and shut his eyes as the helicopter powered down.
"Sorry. It's harder to land in snow. I want you three to stay in here." Cole unhooked his belt, letting it fly into the seat with more force than necessary.
Looking out the front window, I saw what had gotten his panties in a knot. Standing right outside the door of the building was a shirtless Silas, with four others behind him.
I rolled my eyes and slid off Xander's lap as Cole jumped out of the helicopter and trudged to the front of it to engage in a macho stare off with Silas.
"What are you doing?" Eli unhooked his belt as I moved into the front seat and opened the pilot's door. "He said to stay here."
"All he's going to do is start a fight that is completely unnecessary." I slid out, flinching as my feet hit the snow. I needed a foot rub after all the snow walking without shoes I'd been doing.
As soon as I was outside the helicopter, I heard both men snarling at each other. I walked around to the front to stand next to Cole.
Silas narrowed his eyes at me. "Bunny, what the hell are you doing? I thought you were inside!" He crossed his arms over his naked chest and walked forward, drawing an even more feral sound from Cole.
"Stop calling me that." I was okay with nicknames, but bunnies were weak, and I was not.
"Cole doesn't have permission to be in my territory." Silas stopped four feet away and looked Cole up and down with disgust. "You've seen better days, my friend."
"I’m not your friend, and it’s interesting you’re commenting on my appearance when you look like you forgot what a shaver was.” Cole gestured to his own face that was sporting stubble. “Nice place you have here. All the spots at the pound full?"
"Okay, guys. Let's stop being assholes to each other. Silas, we need a place to stay and help to get the pack back. If you don’t want to help, fine. Let us borrow a vehicle and we’ll go to my house. I have plenty of space for them.”
"Them?" He looked at the helicopter as Xander and Eli climbed out. "What the hell were you thinking, leaving during a blizzard to go on a rescue mission? You could have been killed! That sad excuse for a beta already tried to kill you once."
"I wouldn't call the snowstorm a blizzard." I stepped forward and Cole reached out to take my arm, but I shook him off. I was close enough to Silas to see the amusement in his blue eyes at me brushing off Cole. "Are you going to help us or not?"
"What's in it for me?" His eyes danced with mischief, and a small smirk formed on his lips.
"The satisfaction of knowing you helped your mate." I gave his cheek a pat and stepped back. "Plus, don't you want to help take down Dante?"
"You bet your ass I do." Silas's gaze went back to Cole. "This is my house. My rules. My men."
Cole stepped forward with another growl. I'd never heard so much growling in my life, but I guessed it was par for the course since we were wolves. "You forget which one of us outranks the other."
Silas threw his head back and laughed. "Says the alpha who let his mate get thrown into a river."
Whatever thread Cole was holding onto severed and he surged forward, shoving Silas’s chest. They met head on, circling each other like… wolves.
"For Christ's sake." I bent down and scooped up some snow as the two of them began wrestling like teenage boys.
They weren’t throwing punches yet, but they were trying to throw each other to the ground. I formed a snowball and threw it at Silas's head. His eyes snapped to me and he was mowed down to the ground by Cole.
“Maybe we should just leave them out here.” Eli sounded like he was enjoying the show. “They can’t hurt each other too much with their fists, and I’m getting cold.”
Bone, Rover, and two other men I had been introduced to but forgot their names, were standing by the door looking bored and half asleep. It was probably around seven in the morning.
I scooped up more snow just as Silas rolled so Cole was under him. I took that as my opportunity to move in. Pulling Silas’s sweatpants away from his ass, I dropped the handful of snow in.
He screeched and everyone, even Xander, laughed. He was off of Cole in less than a second, pawing at his ass. The snow was already wetting the back of his sweatpants.
