Page 20 of Wolf Forsaken

Xander let go of my feet and crawled to the other side of me, wrapping his arms around me too. I was in a wolf sandwich, and I wasn't complaining any. "What can we do then?"

"About three-quarters of a mile away is our fire station of sorts. We have some all-terrain vehicles, large trucks, and a helicopter." Eli chuckled. "We could fly out of here."

"No way. I'm not going in a helicopter." Xander's arm was around my waist, and he squeezed. "Who would fly it?"

"Well, Cole isn't going to." I looked at him lying at my feet. His breaths seemed to have normalized, and he was snoring lightly. "He was pretty out of it when I found him. He was stumbling around like he was drunk."

"We need to let him rest. He's gone too long without healing completely and keeps reinjuring himself. He didn’t want to rest; I think because he was worried Dante had…"

It got quiet as I let them snuggle against me and warm me up. I was at a loss for words. They probably thought I was dead. Hell, I thought I had died at one point.

"I'm here now, though. We’re all together again." I bit my lip. "I need to tell you that Silas is my mate too."

"Who's this Silas guy you keep talking about?" Xander had slid the blanket off one of my shoulders and was rubbing his stubbled cheek against my bare arm.

"Silas is the alpha of the other pack. He and Cole used to be best friends until the alpha was killed and their fathers split into two packs. I don't know him that well." Eli pulled back and looked at my face. "How do you feel about him being a mate?"

"Honestly, I haven't given it much thought." There were too many other things to worry about, like Dante trying to stage a coup and how I was going to save my men. "I haven't really thought about it."

"We should get some rest, so when the storm lets up a bit more we can make a move." Eli laid down next to Cole, throwing an arm over him. "Get close to him. The body heat will help him heal."

So that was what we did. Three naked humans cuddled up to a wolf that was growling in his sleep.

* * *

I slepthard as warmth engulfed me from all sides. Xander was wrapped around my back, and Cole was in front of me. My hands were buried in the fur around his neck, with my head resting on my arm. I never knew the rough wood floor of a treehouse could be so comfortable. But what made it comfortable was them.

Something wet slid across my cheek, and I stirred, trying to decide if it was worth it to wake up completely to figure out what it was. It happened again, and I cracked my eyes open, finding Cole wide awake and licking my face.

Moving my hands to my face, I blocked him from assaulting me with his tongue again. It didn't gross me out, but it was kind of weird.

“Stop it, you mangy mutt," I whispered, trying to keep from waking Eli and Xander. "You should be sleeping still. You need to heal."

He shifted back to his human form, blinking back at me and bringing a hand to my cheek. "You healed me."

My eyes widened, and I looked down at his torso where an angry scar marred his once smooth abdomen. I slid my fingers over the translucent skin, and he broke out in goosebumps.

"What do you mean I healed you?" I frowned, my mind already whirring with the implications. Wolf shifters didn’t heal others as far as I knew. So, what the fuck was I?

His hand trailed down my arm to entwine our fingers, and he brought them to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on them. "All I felt was this intense warmth spreading through my body and pooling in my gut where the wound was. When I opened my eyes, your hands were glowing faintly." He pulled our hands away from his mouth and examined the palm. "I don't know how it's possible, but it happened."

"Maybe it was just your fast healing, and you were dreaming. Eli said that cuddling up next to you would help you heal." I examined my hand, wondering if it could be true.

"No, I'm pretty sure it was you. It should've taken me a lot longer given the state I was in. I was on the brink of death and you brought me back." He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. "Thank you."

Heat rose to my cheeks. "What does it mean?"

My entire existence was a big fat question mark. I just wanted answers, but the questions kept on mounting. It was suffocating. As soon as I saw Silas again, I was going to ask him more about his father and why he would pay my social worker a large sum of money. I would have asked Cole, but he had almost died, and I didn't want to overwhelm him.

Then there was the photo.

"Right now, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we get away from here and come up with a plan to get the pack back." Cole started to sit up, and I pushed him down with my hand.

"Let's rest a little longer." I was so comfortable surrounded by the three of them that I didn't want to move.

Eli had moved to the other side of Xander at some point. There was something going on there, and I should have been jealous, but I wasn't. If I was going to be with three, possibly four men, I wasn’t about to say the swords couldn’t cross. Iwantedthem to.

His skin still had goosebumps as I rubbed his arm. "Are you cold?"
