I snorted a laugh, and she joined in. "Better than bunny."

"Bunny is an excellent name." Silas sauntered back into the kitchen looking like a tall glass of whiskey that I wanted to drink. "You ladies getting along?" He gave Carly a stern look.

I didn't know what was going on between them, but I held onto the edge of the counter, resisting the urge to go over to him and stake my claim in front of Carly. I needed to get out of there before I made a bad decision.

"I'd like to lie down for a bit before dinner. When did you find me, anyway?" I wasn't tired, but being away from them might help me regain some clarity.

"This morning." Silas's eyes fell to where I was still gripping the counter, my knuckles turning white. "It's pretty amazing you're already recovered, actually."

I let go of the counter and shoved my hands in my pockets. "Where can I take a nap?"

He came around the counter and guided me by the small of my back. Everyone watched us as he led me up the metal stairs to the room I'd been in earlier. "Did Carly give you a hard time?"

"I put her in her place." I was sure he'd hear about it from her. "Is she okay with me sleeping in your bed? Will you be sleeping in hers tonight?"

He shut the door behind us and turned to me, a smirk forming. He ran his hand down his short beard. "Bunny, are you jealous?"

Ignoring his question, because shit, I was jealous, I sat on the edge of the bed. "Okay. What's with the bunny nickname?" I ogled him taking off his leather jacket and throwing it on the bed next to me.

"Answer my question first." He leaned against the door, crossing his arms over his chest. His white t-shirt pulled deliciously against his biceps and his pecs.

"I hardly know you. You could be working with Dante for all I know."

He pushed off the door and fell to his knees in front of me. He moved so fast I jumped and scooted back as he looked at me with the sincerest of eyes. "I would never hurt you."

Taking my hands, I felt like I was the center of his universe. But how? We barely knew each other, and if he was with another woman, I didn't want to be a home-wrecker, even if he was part of my harem of mates.

I laughed at myself and his face clouded in concern. Random laughing did appear a bit crazy. "She said you were together." I pulled my hands from his. "And I'm with Cole and Eli. It wouldn't be fair to them if we just..."

"Just what, bunny?" He braced his hands on either side of the bed. "Cole and Eli couldn't protect you."

I growled, my wolf rising. He fell back on his ass and stared up at me, his blue eyes dilating and then flickering to amber. It should have been concerning to see his wolf's eyes staring back at me, but I was oddly satisfied she'd shaken him up a bit.

I stood up and glared down at him. "The correct response should have been,I completely understand, Ivy."

"Who the fuckareyou?" His voice was harsh as he climbed to his feet and stepped toward me. I didn't move an inch.

Keep your cool. He won’t hurt you. Maybe.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the folded photo I'd snagged earlier. I held it up to his face, and he snatched it from me and then looked over at his dresser. "You took my photo? Why?"

"Who's that man in the middle?" I crossed my arms to make sure he didn't come any closer.

He took my stance as a hint and backed up. "Baron Arnold, the previous alpha before Cole's father killed him." He walked to the dresser and put the photo in a drawer. "He was like a second father to me."

"I think he's my father."

The perfect way toget Silas to shut up and give me space was to drop a bomb of information on him. He stared at me for at least two minutes, and then, without another word, left the room.

Carly had come in sometime later and told me it was time to eat, and I mumbled that I wasn't hungry. And I wasn't. There was too much on my mind to think about food.

Like my plan to leave and go save my pack.

After what felt like forever, the door opened, and light spilled into the room before darkness encompassed me again. I'd already retrieved my car keys from his jacket, and now all I had to do was wait for him to fall asleep.

My body stiffened as I heard the sounds of him getting ready for bed. The bathroom door shut, and light came from under the door. It sounded like he was brushing his teeth. Was he really going to sleep in the same bed as me?
