My paws hit the hardwood floor and made a pleasant clicking sound when I moved. With my nose to the floor, I dashed around the island with a yip. Man, it was slippery as fuck, and I nearly slid into a kitchen chair.
"Ivy, I'll go for a run with you." Eli was already removing his clothes, and I barked.
Oh, wow. This is fun.
I did it again and ran to the couch, jumping onto it. Now, I understood why dogs got on the furniture. It was much better than being on the hard ground. I jumped down, and as soon as my feet hit the plush rug, the urge to roll around on the soft fabric was too strong.
I flopped down and began twisting and rubbing my back on the soft surface, my legs flailing in the air as I scratched an itch right in the center of my back.Shit, this feels amazing.
"What the hell is going on—oh, for fuck's sake." Cole was standing at the end of the hall and started laughing. "No wolves in the house."
I jumped up and ran to him, sticking my nose right in his crotch and inhaling.Mate.He pushed my snout away, and I growled at him.
"Sorry, Alpha." Eli was fully naked now, and I was so excited he was going to join me I danced my front paws around on the floor and let out more elated wolf noises. "Join us?"
Eli shifted, and Cole let out a slew of curses about hair getting everywhere. The only natural thing to do was to shake out and send hair flying.
Cole went to the slider and opened it. "Come on. Let's go for a run."
I skidded across the floor and nearly knocked him over as I bolted out the door, sending a howl up as I went. It was so freeing to be in my wolf form.
"I'll race you to the back trees."Cole's voice was in my head, and I jumped slightly at the intrusion as he ran behind me down the steps with Eli.
"It's not a race if I'm going to smoke your ass."I sprinted, my feet pounding the grass and my breaths deepening. My tongue threatened to come out as I pushed my body to go faster.
Cole caught up to me, edging just in front. He was a magnificent beast, with rippling muscles and a powerful stride. He just beat me by a hair, and we slowed as we got into the trees.
"You pushed yourself too hard at the beginning. We have more endurance than a human, but you can burn yourself out quickly."
I looked over at Eli with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, his ribs extending and retracting as he panted from the race."Can Eli hear me?"
His head popped up, and he stared at me."What?"
Cole spoke at the same time."No. Only I can have a line of communication with each person. It's an alpha thing."
"You can hear me?"I stepped closer to him."But... Cole just said..."
Eli suddenly dropped to the ground and rolled onto his back, showing me his belly."My alpha."
I looked over my shoulder at Cole, who had his lip pulled back in a silent snarl."Cole, what's happening?"
"I don't know."His voice was in my head, but his wolf growled.
My wolf pulled me forward, and I hovered over Eli, my snarl filling the forest. My jaws opened, and I bit into the fur at his neck but didn't break his skin. He whimpered, and I let go.
"What just happened?"I backed up, looking between both of them.
"My wolf wanted in your pack."Eli was still on the ground, but had rolled over to lie on his stomach, placing his head on his front paws and looking at me with glossy eyes."Now I have two alphas."
"Let's run before my wolf loses his shit."Cole ran at breakneck speed into the forest before either of us could respond.
"It was such an overwhelming feeling."Eli crawled toward me on his stomach."Cole's still my alpha too."
I didn't like it one bit. I had no desire to be in charge of a pack. My wolf balked at that."Let's go."Sniffing the air, I ran after Cole's scent.
The forest was beautiful during the early spring. The animals were active, and the trees were vibrant. I used to think fall was the best time of year with the bright colors as leaves turned, but looking at the forest from a different perspective changed that.
Spring meant life.
