Chapter 19
Isat up with a gasp. They had moved me into a bed, which I assumed was Lucifer's bed. It was as soft as a cloud, which made sense since he was an angel and all. I was still in the white dress from Heaven.
I slid out from between the sheets and crept to the door that was open a crack.
"Can't we go try to wake her up now?" Kai asked impatiently. "It's been almost a week."
My eyes went wide. Just how much light had he taken from me?
"I want to just as much as you do, but she needs to recover from the light magic I took." Lucifer sounded like he hadn't gotten much sleep. His voice was rough around the edges.
"What if it didn't work?" Kai sighed.
"It will. Reve said the memories were in a magical pouch inside the hippocampus. It was fairly easy for him to let them out." Lucifer sounded confident that it had worked.
"The hippo what?" Ric chuckled. "This one time, there was a party at the castle. We all jumped in the pool. This chick I was with... she shifted into a damn hippopotamus."
All three of them laughed. I bit my lip. I did not want to hear about Ric gallivanting around with some woman, even if she did turn into a hippo.
I pulled open the door and stepped into the living room. They all looked in my direction and then jumped to their feet. Their eyes held hope and fear.
We stared at each other for at least a minute before I burst into tears. They surrounded me, crushing me to them, their own tears mixing with mine.
I never wanted to forget them. They had been there for me when I felt like giving up. I probably would have if they hadn't walked into my life and into my heart.
Lucifer smashed my face into his chest, the softness of his shirt making me sigh. While he was sexy as sin in a suit, there was something even sexier about seeing him laid back. Especially since there was nothing laid back about him.
He kissed my temple, and Kai pulled me against him. "Fuck, Lia. We weren't sure you'd remember us. We thought we were going to have to woo you with our charms all over again." He grabbed my chin and then wiped the tears from my face.
A smile lit his face, and his eyes dropped to my lips. My cheeks heated. I was really glad all my memories from the past several months were back, even if that meant I had to remember the bad.
"Woo me? You three think you wooed me?" I turned towards Ric, my hand going to my necklace. I hadn't taken it with us to Inferna. My heart swelled, knowing he had put it back on me.
He watched the movement, his eyes flaring at the gesture. "Reve released me from my oath."
I cupped his cheek, and he leaned into it, shutting his eyes. He whimpered as I ran my thumb over his bottom lip.
I stepped away and looked at the three men standing before me. I didn't think my mind would ever fully process everything that had happened over the last eight months.
"What now?"
Lucifer let out a huff of air and led me to the couch. We sat, and I braced myself. Nothing good came from being led to a couch. I had done it countless times with families who had just lost loved ones.
Kai took my other hand, and Lucifer nodded at him. "You died." I nodded; I knew that much. "We made your death look accidental."
I raised a hand to examine it. It looked like all the impurities has been sucked from my skin. Angels could make a killing in the skincare market.
"This is your angel form. It's similar to your human body except you have wings," Lucifer explained.
"You smell different, too," Ric added. "Like clean air."
Did I even want to know what I smelled like before? "If you don't stop smelling me, I swear."
We laughed, and then the laughter faded.
"We can't stay here in Los Angeles. If someone sees you..." Lucifer gave me a serious look. "We were thinking somewhere with lots of land for Ric. Maybe Oregon? If that's what you want. Then I can help you train your healing ability so you can practice as an angel healer."
He seemed uncertain, like he wasn't sure of my feelings towards them or the idea of being an angel.
