That had happened a time or two.
I sighed after a few minutes. I had scared off two men already tonight. I might not have any luck finding prey at the rate I was going.
Just as I was about to call it a night and deal with the consequences of not feeding, the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stood on end. I felt a prickling sensation in my body.
The spiders were waking up.
I looked around the bar area, and a man at the end was staring at me. As soon as our eyes met, he nodded his chin in my direction. It was one of those nods that said, "come here for a good time."
I grabbed my drink and moved to the end of the bar next to him. He was decent-looking, but it was evident that he was a married man. Unless he just wore a ring on his left ring finger for shits and giggles.
My spiders were intrigued. I could tell by the light fluttering I felt in my belly and under my skin.
I played with the straw in my half-finished drink. “Want to get out of here?” I used the most seductive voice I possessed. I wasn’t sure how tempting it was, but it seemed to do the trick.
“We’ll have to go to your place. Is that all right?” The man threw back the rest of his drink and stood, throwing a twenty-dollar bill on the bar top.
“Sure. Is it okay if we take your car? I brought an Uber here.” That, of course, was a lie. We needed to take his car so that afterward, I could get rid of it. Leaving the vehicle would mean someone would find it sooner and start searching for him.
I just wanted the night to be over, so I put on my gloves, wrapped my scarf around my neck, and followed the man out of the restaurant.
