Chapter 13

Alaric

Itook off out of the cave, my mind set on finding food. I needed to escape from what I was feeling.

I was a wolf.

Lucifer was an angel.

Kai was an angel.

It made no difference that he was Fallen. They were both similar to her. I was not. I was a beast.

I sniffed the air and then lowered my nose to the ground. It had been too long since I'd hunted. I craved the hunt, the feel of the dirt and leaves under my paws, the smells in my nose.

I entered the trees and took off after a scent. It was a small animal. Perhaps the size of a turkey. We would be eating good tonight.

At least I could offer Lia something.

I let out a growl at the thought of Kai and Lucifer having their hands all over her. I practically lived with her, yet I hadn't even gotten that close to her.

I wasn't sure why I was so attracted to her. It wasn't just how she looked physically. It was her whole being that just made me feel at home. If I got stuck as a wolf, I was pretty sure she would take care of me. I'd be all for that, even if that meant I had to be on a leash.

The scent was stronger in my nostrils, and I slowly crept forward. I could hear the sounds of the animals as they pecked the forest floor for food. I lunged and caught one in my jaws.

I killed it instantly, not one to play with my food.

I walked back towards the cave, hoping she would be pleased with what I had hunted for her. I knew what it would seem like to the other two. They would laugh and say I was just like a common household pet, bringing presents back for my owner.

I wasn't one to be owned, though.

I trotted into the cave and dropped the bird near the fire. I looked up at Lia, and her lips quirked into a smile.

I shifted back.

"How do you shift with clothes on?" She was naturally curious, which appealed to my wolf. A curious woman meant an understanding woman.

"What do you mean? Is there another way to shift?" I had steered clear of watching any Earth wolf shows just for the sake of my sanity.

Lia had a twinkle in her eye as she looked me up and down. "Naked."

I barked out a laugh and squatted down with my knife to clean the bird. After cleaning our dinner, I roasted it over the fire.

With her first bite, she let out a moan which made my cock jump in my pants. There was nothing better than the feeling of feeding your woman and having her enjoy it.

It was killing me not to grab her and claim her as my own.

Picard finished the leg he was working on and let out a burp. He looked up at me, a thoughtful look on his face. He had been suspiciously quiet the last few days.

"What are you up to?" I narrowed my eyes at him, and he gave a shrug. Everyone was watching us, probably thinking I was crazy because they couldn't understand Picard.

"It's dangerous for me to be here with you." He busied himself cleaning under his nails. "I should have stayed at the castle."

I frowned. "As much as I trust Sammy, I don't trust the rest of them."

"Do you trust Kai and Lucifer?" He was still cleaning his nails. He had a knack for changing the subject when I tried to talk about our plan of action for the constant threat against him.

"What are you two talking about?" Lia had moved from her sleeping bag to sit next to me.
