"You get three phone calls. You can make them now or in the morning. It's late, and it's doubtful that anyone will answer. You will not be able to post bail until the morning after you see the judge."
"I can't post bail tonight?" The officer frowned at my question and then looked down at my paperwork.
"You are being arraigned for murder."
I blinked at him and then shook my head. "This must be some kind of mistake."
It wasn't a mistake. I didn't physically kill anyone, but I was right there. How would that defense go in court? I didn't do it, my spiders did.
I looked at the clock. It was just before midnight. "I'll make a call."
I couldn't exactly call my friends. What friends I had before that day in May were now casual acquaintances. I had distanced myself so much from others that only three people came to mind that would help me, and I didn't even have their numbers in my cellphone.
I called the information number and requested the number for Blue Wave. The operator connected me.
"Blue Wave, how can I help you?"
"I need to speak to Kai." I tried to keep my voice steady, but it was difficult when all I wanted to do was burst into tears.
"I can take a message. May I ask who's calling?"
"No message. I need to speak to him on the phone." I cringed at how bitchy I sounded, but desperate times called for desperate measures. I was usually calm under pressure, but this was a whole new level of it.
"Ma'am, that's not possible. He only takes messages."
"Listen, I'm his girlfriend, do you really think he's going to like that you took a message instead of giving him the phone?"
The phone went silent. I hope she hadn't hung up on me. I didn't know how to get a hold of the other two.
"This is Kai. Last time I checked, I didn't have a girlfriend. Who is this?" He sounded annoyed. I couldn't say I blamed him.
"Kai." I let out the breath I'd been holding and pressed the phone more firmly to my ear like I might lose connection with him at any moment. "I'm in jail. You need to get me out of here." Internally, I was freaking the fuck out because it was so late, and I would have to spend the night in jail. I started crying.
"Who is this?" It sounded like he was walking, and the noise in the restaurant faded.
"Lia. They arrested me. I don't even have a bail set yet."
"Fuck me." He let out a sigh. "Let me call Lucifer. He has connections in the police department." There was a pause. "Lia?"
"Yeah?" I wiped at my eyes and tried to stop the waterfalls from continuing.
"Keep your chin up. We've got you."

The next morning,I woke up to the sound of my cell being unlocked. I was a big enough deal to be put into a cell alone. It was only a matter of time until they connected me to all of the men.
"You're being released." The officer who unlocked the cell stood to the side as I exited. "All charges have been dropped."
I made sure to mask my surprise. What kind of connections did Lucifer have?
I guess I shouldn't have been that surprised. If he really was Lucifer, he was probably capable of a lot. The bigger question was, why was he not in Hell?
Some paperwork needed to be filled out, and then they handed me back my clothes and personal belongings. After changing out of my blue jail garb, I exited into the waiting room to find Lucifer waiting for me.
I had been hoping for Kai or Ric. What do you say to the devil who just bailed you out? A 'thank you' didn't seem like it was enough.
I followed him out into the parking lot where my car was waiting. I looked at him in surprise as he unlocked the car with my key.
