It was time to do something I never thought I’d do. I was putting on royal clothes and playing dress up, going to the birthday party for the triplets of Bravadok. I reached for my tuxedo and grimaced. Would this town house the woman of my dreams? Would I finally be able to assuage the loneliness in my soul? Or would this gamble of exposing my identity bite me in the ass like I always thought it would?

Only time will tell...

Chapter 6

Vanya

I’D SPENT THE DAY WITHJessa and her babies, cooing over my niece and nephew until they were exhausted and fast asleep in their cribs.

“Can you believe Mom kept our cribs from when we were babies?” Jessa asked with a laugh, walking over to the mirror in the corner of my room.

“Ah... yeah I can, actually,” I said with a laugh. “Mom’s sentimental in that way. You know that.”

Jessa was dressed in a long, flowing sapphire blue dress that accentuated her tiny waist and abundant curves.

I couldn’t help what came out of my mouth next. “Your boobs look soamazingin that dress. Are you sure Carlak is okay with that much cleavage being on display?”

Jessa glanced down at the mounds of flesh poking out from her scooped neckline, then laughed. “He doesn’t get a say in my wardrobe,” she answered, poking out her tongue. “But the worst part is this isn’t even half of them. Since breastfeeding the twins, I’ve gone up two cup sizes!”

“I’m so jealous.” I stared down at my own flat chest.

Jessa scoffed. “Well, I’m jealous of you, Miss Skinny Mini. Enjoy the fact you don’t need to wear a bra. It must feel amazing.” She sighed with another glance down at her ample breasts.

I turned around to check out the back of my dress and smiled at my sister. “Well, I suppose there are pros and cons to both.”

Jessa and I were complete opposites when it came to our physical forms. We didn’t even look like sisters, let alone twins. I was the dark to her light. She was bright and curvy, and I was pale and waifish.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Jessa asked me suddenly. “You’ve seemed a little... off today.”

“I’m fine,” I managed to say, but my sister knew me better than that.

She sat on the couch and stared at me, undeterred. “You’re not, that much is clear. What’s going on, Van?”

I shook my head. “Stop it, Jess. My makeup’s done, and if you make me cry, I’ll be mad.”

She stared at me a while longer before sighing and standing up, admitting to temporary defeat on my behalf. “All right... but I’ve spoken to Carlak about staying here for a few weeks so we can talk. I’ve missed you and I’ve missed my home.”

I charged at my sister and hugged her tightly.

“Whoa.” She giggled as she hugged me back.

“I’ve missed you,” I said as I fought back the wave of tears that threatened to spill and ruin my makeup.

“Well, I’m not going anywhere,” she assured me, pulling back and squeezing my hands. “You’ll be begging me for some peace and quiet after a few days, mark my words.”

“Doubtful,” I countered. “Very doubtful.” As we smiled at each other, there was a knock on the door. “Come in.”

It was Anselm, dressed in his finest black suit. He looked absolutely smashing. “Are you two ready?” he asked as he stepped into the room.

I kept hold of my sister’s hand and walked over to our brother. “This reminds me so much of our twenty-first.”

Anselm nodded. “Yeah, me too. Boy, how things have changed, hey?”

I glanced at Jessa, then back at Anselm. “For you two, maybe.”

Anselm’s eyes widened, then he stumbled. “Oh, I didn’t mean... I’m sorry, sis.”

I reached out and squeezed his hand too. “It’s fine. One day I’m sure things will change for me too.” My heart certainly knew that it would, but my stubborn head was mired with negativity. Itfeltlike things would never change.
