But I do know I can’t stay another day married to Luca Clemente.

Chapter Fourteen

HARLEY

It’s been six weeks since I was released from the hospital.

Serena has moved into the clubhouse with me to make sure I’m looking after myself. I was ready to jump back on my bike after one week, yet here she is, standing outside the compound with her hands on her hips, telling me I’m not allowed to ride yet.

Fuck that! Six long weeks of sitting in bed and riding in the van is not my idea of fun. I miss my bike and the carefree feeling of riding. Most of all, I miss Serena’s body wrapped around mine while she hangs on for dear life.

“Serena, get the fuck on, or else I’ll carry you.”

“Why do I feel like we’ve been here before?”

“Because we have,” I agree, smiling.

She smirks, and I know I’ve gotten to her.

I tilt my head. “Will you please get on the bike?”

“I need to check your wounds,” she explains, and I know she’s stalling.

“You already checked them an hour ago. We’re good.”

Tapping her foot on the gravel, she bites down on her lip, glaring at me.

“Serena,” I say, “I’m going with or without you. I prefer you with me. But I’m going, woman, whether you like it or not.”

“Fine,” she finally agrees and straddles my bike.

I hand her the helmet, feeling a little sting on my side from my wound, but I dare not say anything to her. She accepts it and holds on as I start up the bike and rev it a couple of times, feeling the power underneath us.

I take off out of the compound and down the road with bikes behind me. I know it’s Wave and Curly. They will be there to protect me, and usually, I’d tell them to fuck off, but with Luca missing, I don’t want to take any chances. I now know what he’s capable of, and frankly, until he’s found, I don’t trust that he doesn’t have a bounty on my head.

So, I try to ignore that we’re being followed and concentrate on the task at hand. I have plans for the day.

Parking my bike at the beach, I think about the last time I headed here. I wanted to clear my head about everything that happened between Serena and Luca and how I had found out that her father was the one who wanted me and my dad dead.

We’ve talked about it a little, but I’ve come to realize I don’t care why Emilio wanted me dead and whatever Luca’s part was in it.

All that matters is I have Serena back, and she loves me. I know I will find Luca one day and make sure he suffers a painful death, but I’m content with what I have for now. I’ve missed out on so much with Serena, all because of my drive for revenge. I’m not going to do that again.

I do, however, have Sniper looking into what he can find out about Luca’s whereabouts. We did get some intel that he flew his private jet to Cuba, but we can’t be one hundred percent sure. For now, I’ll leave it in Sniper’s capable hands and enjoy the moment.

Serena stands, removes her helmet, and passes it to me. I follow, grab a blanket from my saddlebags, and nod to Wave, who’s parked a few cars down. Grasping Serena’s hand in mine, we make our way down the warm sand to a spot where we used to sit when we were younger and dating.

Laying the blanket down under a beautiful sunny day. I would love to swim, but my doctor doesn’t want me straining myself, and I’m not sure water would be good for my wounds. They’re almost healed, but they’re still red and raw-looking.

“Here, take a seat.”

“Thank you,” Serena says, and I sit beside her. She rests her head on my shoulder, and we both sit in silence for a while, watching the waves. A few people are surfing, and kids are laughing as they play in the water. A memory of Liv and me when we were kids, and our fathers watching over us as they did business with another club comes to mind.

We sit there quietly for a few more minutes. My heart is beating a hundred miles an hour, and my palms are sweaty with what I’m about to do.

With my free hand, I pick up some sand and let it pour through my fingers.

“Harley, what’s going on? You seem distant. Is something on your mind?”
