I shake my head. “No, I haven’t. I’m just not sure I can tell her right now. It’s not that I don’t trust her. I just can’t trust that Luca wouldn’t get to her.”
“I understand. Geez, Serena, you’ve been through so much. Now, there’s the situation of Harley kidnapping you we haven’t addressed… I can’t believe he did that shit. Usually, I would call and yell at him, but after your story, I’m not sure he is the one you should be running from.”
I know she’s right.
Harley isn’t the one who hurt me.
Well, he did three years ago, but in an entirely different way. He would never physically hurt me like Luca. Harley’s only ever cared for me. He was gentle and, at the same time, protective of me to ensure I was safe—to protect me from none other than my husband’s family.
It’s all so clear now.
No wonder he was angry at me for marrying Luca. His family is responsible for his father’s death.
Shit! My father had a hand in killing Jim.
Oh God, but if Harley knew this, why does he still want me? At first, I couldn’t understand why he said that I married the enemy, but I figured that his club had issues with the Clementes. However, this runs deeper than that. Javier killed Jim, and my father ordered the kill, and I married Luca. Poor Harley.I can only imagine how angry he is at me. Does he know about my father? If he did, why didn’t he tell me? He had an opportunity to talk to me so many times and chose not to. If he wanted me all to himself, that was the perfect story to tell.
“What’s wrong?” I look up at Liv, not realizing I’ve been lost in my own thoughts.
I give her a warm smile. “I need to rest,” I say, rubbing my temples with my fingertips. I have got to go lie down. It’s been a long couple of nights, and I didn’t get a lot of sleep on the bus.
“Of course, go. I’ll clean up. I have a couple of errands to run, so I’ll lock up behind me and let Bella in.”
“Thank you,” I say, hugging Liv once again. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
“You know I’ve always got you, Serena.”
“Yeah, I do know.” I smile.
“Now, go rest. How about we order Chinese tonight? I have some wine too.”
“Sounds like a plan,” I reply before I turn toward the guest room.
After closing the curtains so I can have a good rest, I hear Bella’s footprints down the hallway, and before I know it, she’s jumping on my bed.
Liv comes running down to my room to find Bella resting there. “I’m so sorry. I’ll get her off.” Liv orders Bella off the bed.
“No, leave her. It’ll be nice to have company.”
She frowns. “You sure?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. Bella and I are gonna be room buddies.”
I turn down the quilt and sink into the sheets.
“Okay, rest up, and I’ll see you soon.”
I yawn. “See you soon.”
Bella rests her head on my stomach as I lie on my back and pat her soft head. “Ahh, Bella, something tells me we’ll be friends for life.”
I turn to my side, and Bella moves closer so she’s resting her head on my side.
It’s not long before I’m asleep.

I wake to the sounds of yelling and Bella barking.
