While having coffee in the kitchen, Snake walks in carrying a newspaper and hands it to me.
I’ve been trying to devise a plan all week to win back Serena, and it’s been affecting my mood. My men have been avoiding me at all costs, but I wanted updates from them daily.
Curly has been surveying the area to find a way into the mansion, but it’s proven more difficult than anticipated. That place is more secure than Fort Knox.
Wave has been on my back all week, trying to persuade me to return to the clubhouse. Even though my club should be my priority as president, I can’t help but focus on Serena instead.
I’ve told Wave to quit it, and if he wants to head back to the clubhouse, then he’s more than welcome to, but the fucker chose to stay.
I’ve had some of my other men come here from Houston for backup and help with a plan, but every strategy we come up with has a downfall.
Honestly, I don’t give a shit. I’d go in there guns blazing, but my boys won’t let me roll solo, and it’s a death wish if they come with me.
“What the fuck is it?” I growl as I pick up the newspaper Snake threw on the table, almost knocking over my coffee.
“Turn to page three. You’re gonna thank me, Prez.”
I turn to page three, my eyes focusing on the headline that reads,Luca Clemente Attending the Charity Ball for ‘Altogether Now’in place of his father, who was suddenly killed in unknown circumstances two weeks ago.
My eyes freeze on the title, and it seems my luck has changed. Luca Clemente will be attending the ball tomorrow night. My eyes continue reading the article, but there is no mention of Serena attending with him. Surely, Luca wouldn’t leave her at home to attend an extravagant ball such as this one.
The word ‘wife’ makes my muscles tense. I feel overwhelmed with rage. Marrying him was a mistake, and it scares me to know she’s married to the cartel. It worries me she doesn’t understand the implications of marrying Luca for her role as the mob’s wife and the state of her marriage.
I planned to bring it up with her during our ride back to Houston, but we never had the chance. No, she disappeared and left without my knowledge, not giving me a chance to explain things.
“You did good,” I say to Snake, still standing beside me.
Wave walks into the kitchen, his coffee in hand. He looks at me, the newspaper in my hand, then Snake, and back at me.
“What’s going on? What do you have there?” he asks, lifting his chin to the paper.
I smile. “It’s a way to get her back.”
Wave shakes his head and rubs his palms over his eyes as if he’s tired, and then he focuses back on me. “Please tell me it doesn’t involve us getting killed.”
I smile again. “No, brother, but please tell me we still have those waiter uniforms.”
“Fuck!”
“Yeah, brother,” I reply, smiling.
He steps closer, places his coffee on the table, and snatches the paper. He reads it with his eyes wide, then looks at me. “Please don’t tell us we’re attending this ball?”
Standing, I sip my coffee and reply, “Yes, we are.” Putting my hand on Wave’s shoulder, I say, “And we’re using the uniforms again.”
“You can’t be serious, Prez? What if they recognize us?”
Walking around Wave, I grab an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter and take a big, juicy bite. Talking over my vocal chewing, I reply to his question, “They won’t. Luca will be too busy in his fuckin’ element to even notice us.”
“Prez, he knows who we are. That’s why his men shot at us the other day at the mansion. It’s clear they know we’re the ones responsible for Javier’s death. We can’t be careless.”
“I’m not planning to be, brother. We can blend in with the other staff. I just need to work out where we can enter and escape from. It says in the paper that the venue is at the Sovereign International. Contact Crusher and ask him if he can get blueprints on the place. I need to have a plan on how I’m going to get out with Serena if shit goes south.
“I don’t like it,” Wave states in all seriousness. “You’ve got a death wish.”
“Don’t give a fuck. I’m getting her back with or without your help.”
“Don’t be fuckin’ stupid… you know I’ll be there. I’m your VP, and go wherever you go.”
