I believe what Emilio is saying. Javier Clemente is a ruthless man, and Emilio needs our help. I’m going to leave this to our prez.

“So what exactly do you need from me and my club?” my old man asks.

“Clemente has a shipment coming in this Saturday from another supplier. If I can get your club to hijack that shipment and deliver it to me, that will solve the problems I have with my missing product.”

My father eyes me, his expression stunned. He turns back to Emilio and says, “And what makes you think we could do this? If we’re caught, there’s a lot at stake for our club. We don’t want any issues with the damn cartel.”

Emilio panics, beads of sweat on his face. “You would do this as a favor to me.” He focused on me. “Don’t you want to help Serena’s future? Harley, she needs a father. She’s already lost a mother.”

Did he just use Serena as a bargaining tool?

“Mr. Alejandro, this one is for our president to decide. He knows what’s best for the club. I will go with what he thinks is best.”

Emilio then turns to my father. “Jim, what do you think? I will be indebted to you. I will pay you well.”

Dad sighs and thinks for a minute. “We’re going to have to pass, Emilio. I gave my word to my club that I wouldn’t be involved with drugs, especially those related to the cartel. I’m sorry, it’s just not for us.”

My father stands and extends his hand to Emilio.

He ignores it and glares at me, saying, “You’re going to regret this.”

“Hey,” my father growls. “This is my decision, not my son’s, you hear me? I can understand your situation, but we’re not willing to get in bed with the cartel. If Clemente was to find out we had anything to do with the theft of his drugs, then we’re going to have a war on our hands, and that’s not something I’m willing to bargain with.”

Emilio points his finger at my dad. “You will be sorry for this. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

“You trying to threaten us?” I snarl, not believing the balls this man has on him. If it weren’t for Serena, I would have given this asshole a beating for speaking to my father that way, but out of respect for Serena, I will ignore that he has just threatened our club.

“It’s not a threat, Harley.” He then smirks. “You love my daughter, yes?”

Wondering where this is heading, I nod.

“Well, I hope your love can survive what’s coming.”

I jump out of my chair, causing it to fall back against the floor. “Get the fuck out,” I demand, pointing to the door. “You have an amazing daughter. If only she knew the man you are.”

He smiles. “Serena would never disobey her father. If I ask her to stop seeing you, she will listen.”

With anger raging through me, I storm around the table to where he’s standing, but my father stops me with his hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t, Harley. You can’t ever take it back. It’s not worth it.”

Emilio smirks. “Listen to your father, boy. Well, gentlemen, it’s a pleasure. I will give you an extra day to think about it. Maybe your decision will change in the light of day.”

And with that, he finishes his whisky and walks out the door.

“What the fuck was that?” I ask my father, who’s still looking at the door Emilio just exited.

“Son, listen to me when I say you need to watch out for that man. He’s got a nasty streak to him. I don’t trust him.”

“I know what you mean. He had a lot of guts asking us to do this run for him. He knows the consequences if we get caught?”

Dad places his hand on my shoulder, grabbing my attention. “Money can cause people to do many things, desperate things. I want you to monitor him. He’s threatened us, but I’m hoping that was just his anger talking. We need to be cautious.”

Nodding, I agree, “Yes, Dad.”

“Have I told you how proud I am of you?”

“Yes, you have,” I reply with a smile.
