She promised she’d wait for me, and now I’m making her follow through on her promise.

Walking out of my room, I catch Wave stepping out of his. “Hey, Wave, you got a sec?”

“Sure, Prez, what’s up?” he asks suspiciously.

He leans up against the wall, and I take a minute.

“If shit goes down today, and if something were to happen to me, you are my right-hand man. I need to know that you will protect the others and get our brothers and family into lockdown. Promise me you will make sure this is your priority?”

He rubs the back of his neck, his long blond hair now tied back. “Prez, ain’t nothing gonna happen. I’m always going to protect you with my life. I promise I won’t let you go down tonight. You got me?”

“Appreciate it.” He turns to walk back down the hallway, but I stop him, saying,“One more thing.”

“Anything, just say it.”

“I need you to make sure Serena is safe too. I asked her to wait for me, so if I go down tonight, I want you to be the one to tell her.”

He sighs, shaking his head. “Brother, as I said, nothing will happen to you.”

“Promise me,” I repeat, stepping closer and getting up in his space.

“I promise. Anything for you, brother.”

“Thanks. Now let’s have a drink before we take down the motherfucker.”

“But only one.” He laughs. “We need to be on our A-game tonight.”

“Agreed.”

Chapter Fifteen

SERENA

“Here Comes the Bride” is playing as I make my way down the aisle, and my heart is pounding so hard. My veil tickles my nose as I walk up to Luca.

I feel my dad’s hand squeezing mine. He grins at me and passes me on to Luca, looking dashing in his suit and bow tie, all smiles. My hand is held in his, and he cradles it with his other. I’m instantly more at ease.

We slowly make our way to the altar, and the priest begins. I stand facing the priest while my hand is still in Luca’s. The church is overflowing with people I’ve never met before, but it was important to Luca’s dad they attend.

When I asked Luca for a smaller wedding, he just laughed and asked me if I knew who his family was? I guess I didn’t have a choice in that department. Luca was Clemente’s only child, and there was no chance he would let me have a small wedding.

I tried to bring it up with him, and he responded by laughing, getting up from his couch where he was smoking a cigar, walking up to me, and saying, “Give up now… you will not win this battle.”

Even though I was getting married to Luca, I didn’t like his father. I never have. He has a lot of influence and could easily cause trouble for my dad, so I do what he says and hope once I’m married and living with Luca in New York, I won’t have to see him often due to all the traveling to and from Mexico.

We bought a house in Mexico where we could live while traveling there for Luca’s job. I’m quite content to accompany him when he visits his Mexican customers. Our house is gorgeous. It has a view of the ocean and takes me back to the time I spent on vacation with Rachel.

When we’re not in Mexico, we will live in our penthouse in New York. Not sure how I feel about living in a penthouse, but I promised Luca I would try it first, and if I didn’t like it, we could move.

It thrilled my father that Luca gifted him with his own room at the same hotel we live in. I still can’t believe I’m marrying Luca. I distinctly remember fighting with my father over him wanting this exact thing to happen. Isn’t it funny how things work out sometimes?

This is it.

This is my life.

I’m getting married to Luca Clemente, and Harley pops into my head for some reason. The memory of his green eyes, dark hair, and smile will stay in my heart forever.

“Serena… Serena,” Luca says, bringing me out of my daydream state. I blink my eyes for a moment, trying to gather myself. I can’t believe I was thinking about another man on my wedding day!
