“Nothing. Thanks for lending the house to us. Sophia loves it.”

“Ah… you are welcome. Ryan, are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yeah, I’m good. I’ll talk to you soon.”

“Okay. Take it easy.”

I end the call and quickly dialing Prez.

“Hey, brother, I was just about to call you.” His voice sounds serious, and I’ve heard this voice before. Something’s up.

“What’s going on, Prez?”

“I’ll tell you in a sec. First tell me what’s going on with you.”

“Prez, something’s going down.”

“What do you mean?” I can hear him walking away from music and a door shutting behind him.

“Tracker, you there?”

“Yeah, listen… I don’t want to scare Sophia, she’s in the shower right now, so this will be quick.”

“Spill it!”

“A man was here, said that he was a gardener.”

“Yeah, and?”

I look down the hallway to make sure Sophia’s not out, but the bedroom door is still shut.

“Well, he showed up this morning. I was sleeping, and Sophia was out near the ocean, and he surprised her, said that he listened in on us having sex, and he offered Sophia the chance to show her what a real man feels like.”

“Are you fuckin’ kidding me? Fuck! Did you kill him?”

“Hah… I would of if I had seen what happened. That’s not the reason I’m worried. You see, after Sophia told me, it felt like somethin’ was off, so I called my friend, Sam. It’s his house. You remember I told you about Sam, my partner, when I was at the Bureau?”

“Yeah, I remember.”

“Yeah, well, I asked him if he’d sent a gardener, and he said no.”

“Fuck, brother, you sure it’s not just a misunderstanding?”

“I’m sure. Somethin’s not right, Prez.”

“Yeah, sounds like it. What you gonna do?”

Running my hand through my hair in irritation, I reply, “I want to find him and cut his balls off for what he said to her, but it just don’t make sense. I don’t even remember seeing a car in the driveway, so I have no idea where he came from. I think we’ll come back tomorrow, just in case. Don’t trust him.”

“Yeah, I think you should. Who knows what the fucker is doing? He could be a stalker. Who fuckin’ knows? I think we’ve seen our share of assholes.”

“Exactly,” I agree.

“We have another problem which is why I was about to call you.”

“What’s happened?”

“Fuck, didn’t want to ruin your night.”
