“So, what happened with him? I saw you write something down and hand it to him. Was it your phone number?”

“Gabbi, that’s none of your business. Now, can you please make our coffees? I need my caffeine fix,” I reply, rubbing my temples with my fingers. I’m definitely in need of coffee, especially after last night’s dream because I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.

She smiles. “Sure, two coffees coming right up.”

She finally walks away, and I can take a breath.

Annie sits opposite me with a wide smile on her face. I smile back.

“Well,” she says. “Spill it.”

“Ah… ah…” I say indecisively while shaking my head. “You first.”

She lights up. “Okay, fine, we will talk about me first because, well, I can’t hold it much longer.”

I lean in to listen as she lowers her voice. “We had sex.”

I gape at her.Did she just say what I think she said?Seems like the two of us had sex last night. But this is huge for Annie, she’s only ever been with one guy, and she said that it was the most horrible experience she had ever had, which put her off having sex again.

“Annie… oh my God. Tell me more. I want details.”

She plants her hands under her chin and begins, “Well, we went out to dinner at Margo’s, and we got to talking, and the conversation just flowed. We have so much in common. His brother is in the Marines, and he’s currently studying to become a physiotherapist. He’s working at the gym to pay the bills, but once he’s completed his studies, he plans to open up his own business here in Vixen Falls.”

“So, how did you end up sleeping together?”

She leans in close with a serious look on her face. “Am I a slut for sleeping with him on the first date?”

Oh boy, if only you knew.

Shaking my head, I reply, placing my hands on hers, “Annie, you could never be a slut. Did you want to have sex with him?” She nods. “Then, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“Two coffees.” Gabbi places our coffee in front of us and doesn’t hang around for the gossip, and I’m glad.

Placing sugar in my drink, I swirl the teaspoon and continue the conversation, “So how was it?”

Taking a sip of my coffee, Annie replies, “He has a huge penis.”

I wish I had waited to drink my coffee because I practically choke on the warm liquid as she says those words.

Annie leans over and pats me on my back. “Are you okay, Soph?”

I place the palm of my hand on my chest while clearing my throat. “Geez, Annie. Give a girl some warning before you talk about penises.”

She laughs, and I can’t help but laugh with her.

She goes on to explain how they headed to the bar to continue the night after dinner because they didn’t want it to end. Then when they had decided to call it a night, he asked Annie to go back to his house, where they talked some more. One thing led to another, and she says she had the best sex of her life.

That makes two of us.

She tells me how she had to leave during the night to go back home because even though she’s twenty-two, she didn’t want her parents asking where she was overnight. She’s a grown woman, and they should respect her privacy, but I’m not here to judge. She was raised living under a SEAL’s roof, which means discipline and strict rules. My parents didn’t ask me where I was as long as I promised to call them if I was going to be late or not going to return home. I always called, never wanting them to worry about me.

“So… come on.”

“What?” I ask, then take another sip of my coffee.

“Your turn. Spill it.”

“Oh, you want to hear about Ryan?”
