My eyes leave his to look at Gabbi, who has interrupted us to take our order.
Her eyes are focused on Ryan, and as she stands there with a big smile on her face, Ryan’s don’t leave mine. “I’ll grab the BLT. You want anything, Sophia?”
Mesmerized by his stare, my words don’t seem to come out. So I simply nod.
Ryan smirks, then looks up at Gabbi. “BLT, please… and a black coffee.”
Holy hell, his voice is as sexy as he looks.
Lifting my coffee to my lips, I take a sip, skimming my eyes over the rim to get my fill of him. His hands are strong, and I can make out part of a tattoo that’s peeking out of the neckline of his white T-shirt.
Come on, Sophia, you can do this. You have conversations with people all the time. God, I wish I wore something hotter than the black jeans and white linen shirt.
“So,” I ask clearing my throat. “What brings you to Vixen Falls?”
He leans back in his chair and places his hand on the inside of his leather jacket, then pulls out something and slides it over the table to me.
“I’m looking for the man in this photograph. Have you seen him around Vixen Falls at all?”
I raise my brows. “Are you a cop or something?”
“Close… I’m an FBI agent.”
“Mmm… and how do I know what you’re saying is the truth?”
He smirks, reaches into his pocket again, and withdraws his wallet. Opening it, he places it in front of me, and I focus on his badge and ID. Ryan Lismore, FBI agent.
Hot, sexy, and an FBI agent. Wow, I’ve hit the jackpot.
“Convinced now?” he asks.
“Yes, for now, I am,” I reply, lifting the photograph he placed on the table to focus on the image of a male standing by his motorbike with his ankles crossed. He has a grin on his face with his hand on the motorbike seat, showing how proud he is of it. I can’t help but notice the resemblance between Ryan and the man in the photograph.
Forcing my eyes away from the picture, I ask him, “Is he your brother?”
Something changes in his expression, and he gives a swift nod. “Yeah, that’s my brother. He’s been missing for a couple of weeks.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” I reply, passing the photograph back to him. “Are you two close?”
He nods. “Yeah, we were.”
Resting his jaw in his hand, Ryan continues, “He’s my only brother, and I need to know he’s okay. We had a fight, and he left. I thought he’d return home by now, but he hasn’t.”
Sadness fills me. “I’m sorry, I haven’t seen him around. What makes you think he’d be here in Vixen Falls?”
He nibbles on his bottom lip, and as he does, I can’t help but focus on his tongue as he swipes over his lip.
“My investigation shows that he might have ridden through here to go to wherever he was heading. I was hoping someone might have seen him and who could confirm he was here.”
“I’m sorry, Ryan. What’s his n—”
“Here you go… a BLT and black coffee,” Gabbi interrupts, placing his food before him.
“Thank you.”
I’m about to continue the conversation when I notice that Gabbi is still standing there and looking at Ryan.
“That will be all. Thanks, Gabbi.”
