“Fuck,” I growl as I push the kickstand to my bike back down and raise myself off the seat. I just said goodbye to everyone and was just about to start my bike up, when I received an alert of a missed call. It’s Hazel.
“What’s wrong, brother?” Bear asks, concern in his eyes as he struts toward me.
I glance up at him then back at my phone, replying, “Nothing, man. Just missed a call from my sister.”
I take one last drag of my cigarette then throw it on the ground. I’d given up smoking a while ago, when I was a fighter for the underground, for my fitness, but lately, I’ve taken it back up again. No need to explain why.
I dial Hazel’s number and walk toward the garage, where I can get some privacy.
“Kane!” she answers frantically.
Instantly, I go into worry mode. “Hazel, what’s wrong?”
“Oh, Kane. I’m so glad you called back.” I can sense a hint of desperation in her voice, and the sounds of the open road as her phone crackles through her car’s speaker. I’ve told her so many times to get that fixed but she’s stubborn, won’t listen to me.
“What’s going on? Are you in trouble or something?” I ask, terror washing through me.
I look up as I sense Bear near me; his face is full of concern.
“Kane, I’m on my way there.”
“You’re what?”
“I’m on my way to the club. We’re in trouble.”
I still, feeling my heart beating at a thousand miles an hour. “What trouble? Who’s we?”
“Look, I can’t talk for too long, I’m driving, and this hands-free is playing up.”
“How many fucking times have I told you to get that fixed, and not to mention the fucking car in general needs to be replaced. I’ve sent you money and you still refuse to use it. You need a new car!”
“I know, I know. Look, can we talk about this later. Me and Charity are on our way there, Kane, she needs your help, and I do. We need a place to crash.”
“And you were thinking the clubhouse is a good place to crash? Are you fucking crazy?” I lean my free hand on the garage door and shake my head. “Hazel, you’d better bloody start explaining what the fuck is going on with you.”
“Okay, okay. Geez, bossy much?”
I hear a giggle in the background and growl. “Who the fuck is that?”
“Kane, watch your mouth, my friend Charity is in the car with me. You know the one I just told you about….”
“Just get your ass to the clubhouse, will ya, and when you get here you need to start explainin’. I was just on my way down to visit you.”
“You were?”
I smile at her excited tone. “Yeah, babe, I was. I was gonna surprise you and shit.”
“Well, looks like I’m saving you the ride.”
Suddenly a thought crosses my mind, that she could be in danger. “Is anyone following you?” I ask.
“Um, no. Not that I know of. Charity, have you noticed any cars following us?”
“No, I haven’t,” I hear a voice say in the background. Her voice sounds sweet-like, but at the same time sexy as hell. It has a husky tone to it.
“That you, Charity?” I ask even though I know it’s her, just to hear that sweet-sexy voice again.
“Hi, Kane. Thanks for helping me out.”
