“She’s good, man, I’ve got someone watching when she’s working, just to make sure she’s safe. I’m glad we’ve got this wedding this weekend, gives her something to think about other than the shop.”
Blaze and I notice Quill sitting there, staring out into space. “Yo! Prez, you good? Where you at?”
He sighs and rubs his hand across his chest. “I’m getting fucking married.”
“What, you just realize that?” I smirk and tap Quill on the shoulder. “Having second thoughts?”
“Are you fucking nuts? Never…. I’m just worried I can’t be the man, and father of our baby, that she deserves. She’s fucking incredible, I just don’t want to fuck things up. I’m so lucky she chose me. What if I make a terrible dad and husband?” Quill says in all honesty, doubt crossing his face.
I squeeze Quill’s shoulder. “Are you fucking kidding me? You’re the best man I know. She’s fucking lucky to have you as a husband and father to your child. Don’t doubt yourself, man. You make her happy, and she said yes. We both know Jasmine only does what she wants to. She loves you, man. Now get the fuck out of here and go get her. Our plane leaves in a couple of hours.”
Quill mouth lifts into a smile. “Thanks, brother. You’re right.”
He gets up out of his chair, looking at both Blaze and me. “I’m getting fucking married.” We both smile and watch him leave the room.
Blaze and I get out of our seats, and walk out of church.
“See you in Tennessee, brother,” Blaze says tapping me on my back. I’m flying out with Luisa on the same flight as Quill and Jasmine, and the others are riding down. Trigger and Gunner are driving down with our bikes on the back, so we have them with us in Tennessee if we want to ride. I have to say I’m fucking shit-scared of flying. Only did it once, and it was the scariest fucking thing ever. I just hope it’s an easy flight. I can’t show Luisa I’m scared, can’t be a pussy in front of her.
Heading back to my room, I open the door and see Luisa isn’t in the room. I hear the shower shut off, and while I’m waiting for her to dry off and change, I start to think about what’s going down with our club. Just when everything settles down, more shit happens. If only we knew who the warning was coming from. The not knowing is killing me.
I’m startled out of my deep thoughts when a hand lands on my shoulder. I turn, Luisa is standing there in just a towel. “Hawke, what’s going on?”
“Fuck, Lu. I almost forgot you were here,” I say, then wish I could take those words back when I see hurt in her eyes. I was so caught up trying to work things out, I’d zoned out, everything around me disappearing as I ran possibilities and scenarios through my head. I grab her in my arms, and she rests her head on my chest. Whenever she’s in my arms, everything feels so right. “Sorry, babe, I didn’t mean that,” I explain, and kiss the top of her head. She looks up at me, and I swear I could get lost in those eyes.
“Tell me, Hawke, what’s going on? Jasmine called and said Quill left the house early to come to the club.”
Fuck, she knows something’s up. I hate lying to her, but I have to protect her.
She cups my cheek and runs her thumb across my jaw. “Are you in danger?”
Fuck, I love this woman. I turn my face in her palm and place a kiss there. I smile and bring her in closer, cupping her ass.
“Nothing for you to worry about, sweetheart, just club business,” I state, trying to put her mind at ease.
“Hawke! When are you going to trust me enough to share your club with me?”
I cup her beautiful face. “It’s better this way. The less you know, the safer you are, and the better I can protect you.”
“Hawke, you’re scaring me.”
I run my thumb over her well-kissed bottom lip, leaning down for another soft taste. I pull back and hold her gaze with mine. “You never have to worry about your safety with me. I won’t let anything happen to you. You got me?”
She smiles up at me. “I got you.” Could she be any more perfect? “Now, go and get changed, we have a flight to catch. My best friend is getting married,” I add trying to lighten the mood.
