Page 69 of Greer's Change

Rather than siphoning us back to Chaos, we walk.

Reign holds my hand, guiding me through a part of town I haven’t been to before. It’s off one of the side streets, but everything here is so close together that it’s not an unpleasant experience, even with the chill in the air.

He stops suddenly and twists before pushing my back up against the coarse brick wall. A slow smile tips at my lips as he bends, kissing me tenderly. His tongue swirls over Seiran’s bondmark, sending a pulse through the bond. No matter who teases whose mark, it always sends a flutter to all of them, which is fun.

My fingers dig into his T-shirt, and he pulls back…way too soon.

“What was that for?” I ask, grinning.

“I just really needed to kiss you.” He smirks, and my thighs rub together. He’s sensual and playful and so damn sexy, it makes me ache. He shrugs, squeezing my hand.

My eyes widen as movement catches my attention halfway down the street. There’s a cutoff to the right that probably leads to an alley or side street. It’s so fast, I can’t be sure, but the face I saw peeking at us looked very similar to Cole’s.

My nails dig into Reign’s palm, and I gasp.

“Darling, what’s wrong?” he asks, scanning the surrounding area.

“I thought I saw Cole, but I guess it could have been someone else… It was only a split second.” My head shakes, and I try to replay the memory to see if I can determine if it was him.

“Right, let’s get you back to the club, and I’ll come and poke around.” He barely gets the words out before we’re siphoning through the air.

We land in Novak’s office, and his head whips up as soon as he spots us. “What’s wrong?”

“Greer believes she may have seen her former maker.” Reign pats my hip. “You stay with Novak. I’ll do a bit of reconnaissance in shadow form to see if I can locate him.”

“But how will you know what he looks like?” I ask, and as soon as the words are out, I remember he saw Cole in my nightmare. “Sorry, I forgot about that. Be safe.”

Reign nods. “Don’t fret, darling. I know how to keep myself alive.” And with that, he kisses my temple, drops my hand, and disappears.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Greer

“Shouldn’t you be out there backing up Reign or something?” I ask, trying not to panic.

Novak doesn’t miss a step in his quest to get us to the feeding rooms. “No, pet. He’s more than capable of doing reconnaissance and even ending the vampire if he comes across him.” His hand on my ass tightens in a combination tease and tender caress. “We have our own things to handle. Isn’t that the value of a team?”

“Yeah, I guess. I’m just worried.”

“It’s very sweet that you’re concerned for Reign, but even if Cole somehow knew to be on the lookout for him, it would be impossible in his shadow form. Additionally, Reign can simply mimic. Even I can’t identify him by sight or smell unless he reveals himself to me.”

“Wow, that is strange.” Cool, but weird. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to look in the mirror and see a different face than my own. “But, really, I’d rather feed from the three of you.”

Novak’s grip turns proprietary. “I do love hearing that, but the reality is, you and I need human blood to replenish our systems. However, I believe I’ve come up with a decent compromise.”

The room is a lot fancier than Novak made it sound when he described the feeding rooms. The wall on the far side of the space is glass and looks out over Chaos. There’s a leather three-seater couch, a chair, and a small end table, but no other furniture, not even a rug. Although two humans come in shortly after us, and they bring with them a rolling cart with a punch bowl and two glasses.

I turn back to examine the dance floor, but Novak steps up behind me and pulls my hair to the side. He kisses down my neck, palming my middle as his tongue flicks over my skin. It makes my entire body pulse with interest, but not for the humans.

He gets very close to my ear and murmurs, “Peruse the club for a minute, then take a seat on the couch. I’ll join you in just a moment.”

I nod and run my fingers over his hand that rests on my stomach.

He winks at me in his reflection in the glass and uses his speed to move over to the two men. He speaks to them in low tones, and it sounds like his words are laced with a fair amount of compulsion.

My gaze doesn’t leave the club as I study all the carefree dancing monsters. There’s every possibility it was someone who just looks like Cole. I’m still anxious, and I will be until Reign is back in the safety of the club. I’m sure Cole could find his way into Chaos, but the building gives me a false sense of security.

A drip, drip, drip fills the air, and I turn to head to the couch.
