The North American Paranormal Council must still operate like they did fifty or a hundred years ago. Normally, I would find their lack of forward progress amusing, but my nerves are decimated.
We finally get the go ahead to leave, and every cell in my body yearns to immediately check on Greer.
Seiran claps me on the back. “Ready to head home?”
A strange wave of nostalgia rolls through my system. It’s been a lot of years since he called it that, and it makes me strangely happy to hear him refer to it as our home.
“I can’t,” I say, shaking my head. “I left without a word. Reign and I were busy with the humans, then I felt her terror…”
“Thank you for coming so quickly,” he says solemnly. “I dosed them with lust, hoping that would give me a few extra seconds, but it had no effect. It didn’t even touch whatever directives they were given.”
A hollow pit forms in my gut.
That’s not a good sign.
If her original maker is older than I am, it could take all three of us to bring him down. It’s been nearly a millennium sinceI went up against an ancient, and I barely made it out of that battle alive. Sheer hate was my determination, and I managed to come out on top, ending my maker once and for all, but it was brutal. This situation is even more dangerous because Seiran and Greer have nowhere close to the level of training that they would need for me to be comfortable with having them participate. It’s a chilling realization. They’ll need to be protected. It’ll be Reign and me up against Cole while Seiran and Greer flee to safety.
Fuck me.
I’m exhausted.
“You did well,” I tell Seiran. “I only wish I could have been here sooner.” That way, he wouldn’t have been forced to take a life. There’s no doubt it will weigh more heavily on him than it would on me. I swipe a hand over my face. “Get home. I’ll meet you there after I check in at the club.”
“No,” Seiran says firmly. He steps forward, pulling me in for a hug. “You need to be with Greer. I’ll check on the club and head home once everything is settled.” He pats my back, stepping back. “She’ll feel safest with you.”
“She’ll feel safest withbothof her mates at her side.” I barely get the words out before Seiran flexes his wings, taking off.
“Agreed. I’ll be home before daybreak.”
Stubborn incubus.
But, for once, I don’t put the club before all else. Greer is my progeny, and, as fate would have it, my mate. I need to verify her well-being before I claw out of my own skin.
My concern has been high, but Reign has the ability to siphon. It’s a gift that’s gotten him out of many dangerous situations.
I’m unsure if all incubus lack the power, but it’s one Seiran doesn’t possess. It’s Reign’s nightmare roots that grant him the ability.
If Cole is an ancient or a primordial vampire, then having Reign siphon Seiran and Greer to safety will be the first step of any impending battle. Knowing they’re far away and protected will give me the strength necessary to truly give in to my nature.
I’ve already removed my jacket, tie, and I’m working on my belt by the time I make it into my bedroom. Based on the sounds echoing out of the bathroom, Reign and Greer are fine and quite enjoying a shower.
My head tilts, and I soak up her begging moans as I work on getting myself out of my shoes and the remainder of my clothing. The water runs, covering some of the sobbing, but I believe she begs for and then demands his bite.
The thought doesn’t appall me. Having the two of them bond will make mine and Seiran’s lives easier. Reign is enamored with Greer, and I understand how deeply it would hurt him to be left behind. I pondered the situation earlier while Reign thanked and apologized to the humans, and I came to the realization that it would have bothered me deeply if he and Seiran had a bond with her while I had none.
I’ve always had a fondness for sharing. After growing up in a pack, Reign had a bit of a selfish phase when he didn’t wish to share at all, but after seeing him with Greer these last few days, I know he will come around. Seiran falls somewhere in the middle. He never minded watching and boosting my lust, but he never actively participated more than a kiss here or there, and that was likely due to it being a convenient method of delivering his magic.
The water cuts off as I’m almost to the bathroom door, but movement behind me catches my attention. Reign must have siphoned them from the shower directly to the bed.
“God, that feels so good.” Greer moans, and I spin around to join them.
Only, I stumble a step.
Reign has her knees on his shoulders and his face buried in her cunt as he stands near the bed. His shadows wrap around her as she wobbles, and her fingers dig into his hair like she’s holding on for dear life.
My mouth waters as I recall how delectable she tastes.
Reign raises his arms, and his hands land on her shoulders. He bends and lowers her to the mattress before smirking over his shoulder at me. “You better hurry. She was about to come on my tongue.”
