“Halloween,” she said, with one eyebrow crooked.
“Halloween? That’s not until Tuesday.”
“I know, it’s my favorite holiday…let’s throw a party. We can invite the squad, have some themed snacks and drinks. I could even wear thatScreammask you like so much.”
I rolled my eyes at the mention of the mask, but wanting to make her happy, I said, “Let’s do it.”

HALLOWEEN
Mary
I had toldno one about Holly, or how it had destroyed me and my family when she died. It was as if saying it out loud would make it real, and I never wanted to be the girl everyone felt sorry for.
As I walked back to my house from Ava’s, I was on cloud nine. She had listened; she hadn’t made me feel like a freak of nature with my tarot cards and energy readings. And she had comforted me.
I had been obsessed with love, but Ava was the first one to see Mary…and not the made up one.
When I finished feeding my fish and packing a bag, I grabbed the phone off the wall and dialed Liv & Harper’s campus house.
“Wasssup?” Liv answered, sounding like she may already be half-cocked. Liv loved to party, and if she wasn’t at a party, she’d get into trouble somewhere else.
“Hey cuz, It’s Mary.”
“Hey shit stain. How’s the MILF?”
I rolled my eyes, ignoring her sass. “Speaking of, we are throwing a Halloween party tonight and I want you and Harper there. Bring some green.”
“At Mr. Kelly’s house? Are you for real?”
“Yes…and I have a plan.”
“Oooooh, now you’re talking. We will come if I can pull Harper’s head out of Friday’s ass long enough.”
“Ok, see you tonight.”
* * *
I wassurprised at how many of the cheerleaders showed on such short notice, but Ava was a Cheerleading God in this town, so maybe I shouldn’t be.
Ava and I had gone to the localWalgreensand bought up as many last-minute Halloween decorations as we could.
Fake cobwebs and spiders decorated her dining room, and strands of pumpkin lights and fake ghosts decorated the living room.
We laughed until our faces hurt while she picked out a Halloween costume, and we decided on a sexy kitty since it was that or a witch. Ava looked way cuter as a cat after I painted on a nose and whiskers.
Hip-hop music blasted through the tall stereo. Girls stood in circles chatting, dressed as clowns, dolls, and various animals. I had donned the nun outfit from the party crashing disaster because Ava said she couldn’t wait to hike it up around my waist and fuck me in it.
I guess she had a new toy she wanted to show me…but that would just have to wait.
Excitement pooled in my belly as I watched Ava down another tall glass ofBeetle Juice,a green concoction I had made with vodka, sour mix, andMidoriliquor. She laughed and talked to the other girls, and a small pang of jealousy hit me like a ton of bricks, but then she looked over at me and winked.
I was the only woman she had ever been with, thanks to the chat room. And while it made my heart and body sing, I worried she’d get bored with me and want to experiment with more women.
What if she’s bisexual, and not a lesbian? What then? I’ll never be able to fulfill all her desires then.
I swallowed down the fear just like I’d always done and nodded at Liv and Harper as they quietly came through the front door. I motioned my head toward the phone hanging on the wall inside the kitchen. The two girls grabbed a drink and walked to the kitchen, leaning against the wall where the phone was mounted.
