“I don’t—”
Hunter pressed a soft kiss against my lips. “You don’t have to decide now. Even after giving you those tickets, even if you decided to leave, even if it would be impossible to find you, it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t get on my bike the second I found you gone, hunt you down, and drag your ass back here. I just hope you choose the alternative, because it would be a pain in the ass to track you with those tickets.”
I burst out laughing.
Hunter smiled back in return. It was the first genuine smile I had seen, not a smirk or a grin, and I felt my heart squeeze.
He pressed a kiss to my forehead before letting me go. “Whatever you decide,” was all he said as he headed for the door, leaving me standing there in my sheet, the tickets like two slabs of stones in my hands.
Somehow, I found this moment not as sweet as I had thought it would be.
* * *
It had beenover a week since I had been given that envelope. It was sitting in the top dresser drawer in my room, burning a hole through it. It didn’t matter that much since it was the only thing in there while I was suffering from a lack of wearable material.
I was stuck to wearing Hunter’s shirts and boxers, and had to suffer through those heated looks he gave me. He was such a Neanderthal when it came to cliché things like that. It was a shirt; was there really a need to get all possessive about it? Not to mention, he couldn’t keep his hands off me.
At every corner, when Adair wasn’t looking, Hunter would drag me in and kiss the heck out of me. And on the days when Kay and Anna came around, his hands would slip lower.
And so would mine.
But his hands had a better success rate, since every time I reached below his belt, he would stop me. I was sure most women would love to get orgasms and not have to make the effort to give one back, but not me. I wanted to return the favor.
I wasn’t sure why he wouldn’t let me touch him back, but I was coming to a point where I considered slipping drugs into his coffee while I tied him to a chair. It had been one of my fantasies, I admit, but I had considered my partner to be more willing than this.
Thus, I had compiled my list of issues and waited for my team to assemble.
The door swung open with a bang when the familiar sound of red boots came strutting into the house. I knew it sounded strange to hear red, but with the way Anna walked, there was no other color she would wear. Followed by it, I heard Kay’s voice as she shut the door and came into view after the spunky blonde.
“Oh, fuck, what’d I do?” Anna asked, stopping dead in her tracks and staring down at where I had my fingers laced over my problem list.
“Why’d you automatically assume you did something wrong?” I asked, curious as to what kind of trouble Anna would get in. Probably the very sneaky kind.
Anna shrugged. “No reason.”
“Don’t worry,” Kay said as she slipped into an opposing chair. “She hasn’t been formally charged with anything yet.”
“Formally?” My interest piqued.
“Yet?”Anna scoffed. “Never will I ever.”
Kay shook her ginger head. “What’s the problem?”
Anna peeked around the room as she settled into her chair. “Where’s the little monster?”
“Upstairs napping,” I said, thinking how right Hunter had been when he had said the pair of girls had fallen in love with my charming little boy. I was beginning to think his way with girls was genetic.
“I didn’t mean that one.”
“Oh.” I chuckled, then remembered my list and scowled. “That monsterhas gone shopping.”
“You didn’t go, too?” Kay asked.
“No, I don’t go.” I shook my head. “I sent him with a list.”
“Don’t go or won’t go?” Anna turned her attention fully on me.
“What?”
