I want you naked in the room when I return.
I stifled a laugh and walked to the bathroom. My Alpha was an insatiable priapic.
When I headed down, I saw a young Omega hurrying toward me. “Luna Kimble,” she said, bowing. “The Alpha has asked me to give you a tour of the house.” Her dark hair fell over her shoulders as she bowed to me. She looked at me with caution, and added, “He said that you wanted to see the house.”
My lips curled up. “What’s your name?” I asked, as I walked past her.
“Colby Watten.”
“Colby, let’s start. You have to tell me everything about this house and the people inside it. There’s a lot to learn.”
Colby’s eyes gleamed. “Sure, Luna.”
An hour later, I’d covered only one-third of the house. And, in that time, I’d discovered that some of the Omegas working in the house were sending the wrong bills to Alpha’s finance department. I mean, cost and inventory weren’t matching. Next, I wanted to tour the kitchen, but before that, I thought of messaging Talon. However, just as I was about to do that, Jackie called me on the phone.
“Kimble!” she cried.
“Jackie,” I asked, walking to the guest room balcony for some privacy. “What happened? Why are you crying?”
“I—I was talking to Kirk last night, and—and he said that he wanted you as his mate.”
“What?” Disbelief washed over me. “What nonsense are you talking about? This is absurd!”
Jackie sniffled. “I’m so upset, Kimble. How could you do this to me? How could you entice him when you knew he was my boyfriend and I loved him?”
“I never did anything of the sort!” I explained, but she cut the phone, leaving me shocked. I turned back and said to Colby, “I have to go to Jackie’s house. Ask the chauffeur to get the car quickly!”
Jackie’s house was only twenty minutes from mine. I really had to clear this doubt between us, and console her that there was nothing between me and Kirk. “Jackie!” I pounded on her front door. “Jackie, please open the door!”
She did, anger etched on her face. “What do you want?” she spat as if addressing a traitor.
“Let me come in,” I requested.
“Go away!” she hissed. “You betrayed me.”
Annoyance bubbled inside me. “As your Luna, I order you to let me inside.”
This time she froze but opened the door wide to let me in and walked away. I closed the door behind me and grabbed her hand. “Listen to me and listen carefully. I never had any feelings for Kirk. He’s nothing to me. I respected him because he was your boyfriend, but trust me, I don’t have any romantic inclination toward him. The only person I like in this entire place is—” I paused, hesitant to express my feelings, hesitant to acknowledge the truth. She narrowed her eyes. “The only wolf I like is Talon.” There. It was out. I felt lighter. Better. And I bit my lip, a blush dusting my cheeks.
Jackie’s mouth dropped to the floor. “But Kirk said he went to the Choosing Ritual for you.”
I nodded, on the verge of telling her the truth about Kirk, but I didn’t want to break her heart. “That’s his story to tell, Jackie. But, I swear, I have no romantic inclination toward him. And if Talon learns about this conversation, Kirk will be in danger. So it’s better that the two of you sort this mess out.”
A click on the door made us turn sharply. It opened and I saw Kirk walking in. My brows furrowed as he stared at me.
“You should be in the kitchen at Alpha’s manor. What are you doing here?” I asked.
“I came to see you,” he answered simply, crossing his arms across his chest.
“Are you insane?” I growled. “How did you know I came to see Jackie? Are you spying on me?”
He didn’t say anything but clenched his jaw.
Furious, I seethed, “You’re lucky you’re mated to Jackie. Without that, you’re nothing and would probably be thrown in the dungeons! Jackie is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever come across. Don’t you fucking break her heart by bullshitting me.”
Kirk scoffed, “I was forced to mate with her. That doesn’t mean I like her.”
“You better be good to her,” I shouted. “If you harm—”
