I moaned as Seth massaged the oil on my back.

“If I knew I was going to get surprise holidays and cash for fucking you, I would have tried to divorce you sooner,” I said, stretching my back out. “This is what I needed before I go back to work. Thank you.”

It was almost September and I still wasn’t pregnant. We bought the nursery furniture, but I didn’t choose soft furnishings or finish stencilling all the murals. We decided to wait until I was pregnant to finish it off.

“You’re welcome. I owed you an anniversary gift,” he said.

“I might have burned yours,” I said.

“You did?”

“No, but I thought about it with great intensity,” I said with a grin before I turned to look at him.

If I was his escort for another few nights, I would have paid for his Rolex myself.

“Are you sure Gloria didn’t pick the location?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“I picked the location, dates and the villa,” he said indignantly. “Gloria booked it for us, though. You know I hate being on the phone.”

I lay back down and enjoyed the sun shining down on my back. It didn’t matter because we were here together. He kissed my shoulder and continued to work his way to my lower back. The schedule was out the window, but spontaneous fucking was so much better.

Chapter 20

Seth

I groaned as I stood up to clear the table. Kat made my favourite bucatini pasta dish, but the second helping was pure gluttony on my part. After our break, we both felt revitalised. My wife still had a beautiful all-over tan, courtesy of our private beach.

Kat got up to help me, but I waved my hand.

“No, I’ve got this. You relax, and once I’ve loaded up the dishwasher, you can tell me about work,” I said as I placed her pasta bowl on top of mine.

She sat down with a smile, and her happiness made me content. All the negativity was behind us, and our unity had never been stronger. We communicated better. I paid attention to her how I should have, and my work didn’t suffer because we had installed several new executive positions and more senior management roles. Over the next few months, I would have more time to dedicate to my family and marriage.

I saw a small, flat gift box when I returned to the dining room. It was navy blue with a silver ribbon around it. It wasn’t my birthday, and hers was in February. I knew for a fact it wasn’t our wedding anniversary.

“What’s this for?” I asked when I gave up.

“It’s for you. Open it up,” Kat said with a bright smile.

I stared at her briefly before I tugged on the ribbon. When I lifted the lid, I froze at the content. It was a tiny white baby vest that said ‘Baby Winthorpe June 2025’. I lifted it up to see a second one that said, ‘Surprise! You're going to be a Daddy’.

Kat stood up and pulled something else from the box, but I was too busy trying to battle with the equal measure of shock and elation. We thought it might take several months.

“I took the test today,” Kat whispered with tears glistening in her eyes.

I took the pregnancy test from her with a grin. We were pregnant. I dropped everything and kissed Kat. She linked her hands behind my neck, and I wrapped mine around her waist.

“You are the only woman I would ever want to carry my children. You will be an amazing Mama, Kat. I love you,” I said as she clung to me.

“I love you too, but this still means we have our weekly date night,” she said.

“Of course it does,” I said as I lifted her into my arms and headed towards our bedroom.
