I shook my head and stood up. His eyes narrowed on me suspiciously.
“We are in the office, I’m not about to whoop your ass again. You're right, though. Your wife would never leave you,” I said, walking towards the window.
“Exactly. I will have her eating out of the palm of my hand in no time,” he said.
“No, I meant she wouldn't need to leave you because she will have murdered you,” I said with a smirk.
“Get out of my office, you asshole,” he said with a frown.
I took a deep breath and sighed.
“Is she under the age of 58? Mum needs you to marry someone fertile,” I said before I turned to leave his office.“Karma is a beautiful thing,”
“I’m never sharing anything with you again,” he snapped at me.
“Good,” I retorted back at him.
There was no better way to start my working day than to fuck with Saul’s head.
“Fucking karma. What a dickhead,” I heard him mutter in disgust as I reached the door.
I laughed maniacally because perhaps we both had more of our mother in us than I realised.

When I couldn't find Kat in the house, I breathed heavily to calm myself. It worked for twenty seconds until I felt nauseous. I threw my bag on the floor and shouted her name. She said she would be home today. I raced upstairs, but the bedroom was empty. The door slammed against the wall as I scanned the room.
The nursery!
I tried the next room but that was bare. I stripped the room and began to prep it as our baby’s room. She loved that I’d begun the process. We’d been looking at furniture and various wall designs. She was so excited about the soft furnishings,
I paused as I recalled her overly enthusiastic response to pillows and cot bedding. Kat immersed herself in the entire process with such ferociousness that she had me on a fucking schedule.
Who designed a sex schedule? That shit had my mother all over it. And where the fuck was she?
I pulled my phone out and looked at my earlier messages with her. I scrolled through them until I reached the section about her going to the shops. With a sigh of relief, I slipped my phone into my pocket and rubbed my hand over my face.
Relief washed over me, and my heart began to slow down. I jogged downstairs and made my way to the backdoor. It was ajar, and I stepped outside into the sun to see Kat kneeling over a patch of soil. She was planting various crops for our family.
I glanced at the side to see the multitude of tree saplings she had bought. She had messaged me earlier saying she was visiting the garden centre. When I began to walk towards her, she pushed her hat up and put her trowel down.
“Hi, baby, I see you couldn't wait,” I said as I crouched down to kiss her.
“Oh, hey. I lost track of time,” she said as she wiped her brow.
“Easily done, baby. I should know,” I murmured before I kissed her again. “Shall I get changed and come give you a hand?”
“No, we can do the trees tomorrow. I've just planted some vegetable seeds,” she said.
“I need to plant some of my own seed, baby,” I said, pulling her up.
She chuckled. “You're ahead of our schedule.”
Katya put her heart and soul into everything she did, and I was glad to support her in whatever made her happy. I had a short trip away planned, and my wife deserved a holiday before school restarted.
